Your PM box is full so I thought I’d ask here:
I changed Gabby’s diaper again 2 hours after her last feeding and I
found very watery stool again and this time with two lil bits of
mucous. So I think I know what that means: she isn’t tolerating the
milk anymore. So I have a few questions since you have experience with
MSPI.How long did Trace tolerate Alimentum before you knew it didn’t work?
I was using Gerber rice cereal with it so I don’t think it would have
helped anyway. I didn’t know that was bad at the time. You said the stools were always watery on soy and milk. She’s 15 weeks
and this is the first time I’ve seen this. When was Trace diagnosed?
And was there normal stools for a while? Also, she’s been having a wonderful day otherwise. She hasn’t cried
with a single bottle and has eaten more today than usual. I think
daddy is better at waiting her out til she’s very hungry and I try to
get food in her when it’s been four hours. The only change we made,
like I said, was the increased prevacid and the maalox. I think I’m
going to try to go back to the smaller dose tomorrow and see if it
changes the stools. I have a feeling it won’t though. Is mucous in the stool ever normal?
Thanks for your help.
Kathy
PS: If anyone else has any insight, feel free to add.
November 11, 2006 at 10:40 pm #17802AnonymousInactiveOh yeah, and besides the two weeks on Alimentum, she’s been on milk formula and breastmilk during her short lil 15 week life. So, isn’t it strange that the mucous is finally appearing now?
November 11, 2006 at 10:45 pm #17803AnonymousInactivemy son didnt have mucous at first. he was just very gasasy and had diareah on milk based and soy based formula, and was refluxing.
he was on alimentum for about 3 weeks and did fine (besides diarhea) and then suddenly started refluxing like crazy and was in a lot of pain even though he was on a high dose of zegerid. he also had mucous in stools.
i have read that tons and tons of babies with reflux have mspi or some sort of allergy.
i guess you just have to use your mommy instincts to figure all this stuff out!November 11, 2006 at 10:48 pm #17805AnonymousInactiveHow old was he when you finally switched to Neocate?

November 11, 2006 at 11:50 pm #17810AnonymousInactiveHi- Alana never had mucous in her stools prior to changing to pepti junior- we changed because she appeared to have stomach cramps within an hour of eating. Also when on a normal formula she is more unsetlled and won’t sleep properly. Of course Pepti Junior is only semi-elemental.
The only time Alana has had mucous is when I have tried to feed her something other than milk- ie some apple puree when trying to give her some losec and some rice cereal. So I guess her system was just not ready for it. So I wonder if mucous is a non-specific symptom- ie you get it for a multitude of reasons? Whilst it could be a MSPI it could be something else?
I worried about Alana’s stools for days when she started Pepti-Junior- well acutally I still worry about them- I turned up at the maternal child and health nurse with a pooey nappy and said “is this normal”!!! So I get why you are worried!
