Nanny for two refluxers!

Our 14 month old daughter has a feeding aversion due to reflux and now our 2 month old son has severe reflux (worse than our daughter’s was, we believe). Our current nanny/early interventionist is about to leave us to have her own baby. Our search for a replacement nanny has been very unsuccessful–as you know, caring for reflux babies/children is so different from other children. Do any of you have any leads for us (live in Berkeley, California) or resources for someone with experience with reflux or perhaps someone interested in childhood development/early intervention. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I worked as a nanny for a child who was severely handicapped for three years. I was looking for a job in a hospital or rehab facility and I came across the job posting on monster.com. When it was time for me to move on, to have my own child, we were able to find a great replacement for me on monster as well.

I would try to post where people may not be specifically looking for nanny jobs, that way you may find someone who is willing to take on more of a challenge. Good luck with you search, if I was still in CA I would tell you to bring them over to my house.

Sometimes if you advertise at schools or groups who work with children with special needs you can get someone that way. But I’d be careful and ensure you get references and more, as you need someone who’s so patient when it comes to refluxers. Another option- the way I’d probably go- is to go through an agency. You can explain the circumstance and the special needs of your children, outline your expectations and qualitifications, and they’ll find you people to interview. I do believe that agencies are pricier though, but it might make it easier. Good luck. I know how hard it is to leave your children, but especially when you’re dealing with severe reflux and feeding aversions. Keep us posted.
