November 10, 2006 at 8:30 pm #17652AnonymousInactiveno, haven’t seen the dippers but will deff. start looking, anything to contain the mess would be lovely!!!
Laura-LOL My 7 year old sometimes still tosses the fork to the wayside if he’s in a hurry to go play (drives me absolutely NUTS!!!) that and taking gigantic bites so he’s done faster, I think I might get a timer and tell him dinner lasts X amount of minutes no matter how fast you eat…
November 10, 2006 at 8:32 pm #17653AnonymousInactiveOh, he still uses his hands much of the time, but he knows what to do with the fork and he eats part of his meal with it.
Tonight he ate grilled cheese!! I’m so amazed.
November 10, 2006 at 9:07 pm #17667AnonymousInactiveoh wow that’s AWESOME Christine!!!!! I’m so happy for you guys!!! Grilled cheese is big b/c it has a lot of textures going on, watch out he’ll be eating you out of house and home before you know it!!!!

November 12, 2006 at 3:10 pm #17845AnonymousInactiveThat is so great that he is eating more foods!!!! Sebastian has been doing a little better with eating too. He can tolerate (but hates) chicken and potatoes now. He will eat diced carrots and rice cakes on his own. Most get on his lap and the floor, but he is getting more and more chewed and swallowed every day.
It is so great to see them eating, they look so grown up!! I hope he keeps it up and is a regular chow hound soon!!!
November 12, 2006 at 7:41 pm #17856AnonymousInactiveHi Katey,
It’s nice to hear that Sebastian is eating a little table food now. It is fun to see them feed themselves. It’s worth the mess. Myles has 12 teeth already (!) and he’s really chomping on his food, so it’s really cute to watch. Chomp, Chomp, Chomp. You’d think he’s chewing on a steak!
That’s great that Sebastian will eat diced carrots. Myles won’t eat any fruits or veggies yet unless they are pureed and spoon fed. Oh, well…I’m sure that will come with time.
November 20, 2006 at 11:50 am #18502AnonymousInactiveI only just saw this now Christine – but GREAT news and WTG Myles!!! I’m
hoping that Marisa is starting to turn a corner VERY slowly… She’s still
boycotting grilled cheese and fresh veggies but she will now hold a fresh
pear slice and lick it (but not bite it) and same with a carrot stick. She will
sometimes now eat Annie’s Mac n cheese and last night tried a little linguine
with marinara.
How do you prepare the almond butter and jelly sandwich? Do you toast the
bread? Cut up the sandwich? What kind of bread? Need to try that one…
November 20, 2006 at 1:16 pm #18513AnonymousInactiveHi Karen,
Myles is still very picky, but he’s still eating almond butter/jam sandwiches, grilled cheese and whole grain crackers. And he lets me feed him yogurt and lentil soup. So I feel good about the healthy things he is eating BUT he still won’t eat any fruits or veggies except purees. He does what Marisa is doing, he’ll lick them but won’t bite them. Maybe that’s a good first step for them. They are at least getting a small taste that way.
I make Myles’ almond butter and jam sandwiches on whole grain bread. I usually don’t toast it because the outside of the sandwich is a little to dry for him, but it does actually tase very good on toast, so you may want to try it both ways. I just use a thin layer of almond butter (it’s drier than peanut butter so too much would be bad), and a thin layer of whole fruit preserves (usually raspberry or strawberry) right on top of the almond butter. Then I cut it into small bite size pieces and give him a fork. He eats some with his fork and some with his fingers. He loves it!! I hope Marisa likes it too. It’s so healthy…a great source of protein and healthy fats for them.
I hope Marisa continues to improve. It does seem like slow progress with our picky eaters. I have to keep reminding myself that Ellie didn’t eat table food until she was 18 months old and she’s a great eater now. Hopefully Myles and Marisa will both be great eaters some day soon.
