I just got the results back- poop is full of blood and onto Neocate we go. I wanted to scream, ” I TOLD YOU IDIOT,” to her doctor who tried to convince me she had “colic” this morning. Can anyone tell me what to expect now?!?!?!
July 7, 2008 at 7:45 pm #53507hellbenntKeymaster1) I would now ‘use’ this to DEMAND more meds, etc. FAX FAX FAX. You can always back down in the future…
2) ok now what to expect: it can take a full 2 to 3 weeks for the neocate to show it’s full effect. many many babies have a hard time transitioning to neocate (actually just transitioning from one formula to another), so go as sloooowly as you need to. start by adding just one ounce of neocate to her nutrimigen and then after a day or two add another ounce, etc, until you have a full bottle of neocate. then it’ll take the 2 or 3 weeks to see the affects…3) this does not necessarily mean that your baby will not need medine, too. So, I would continue the ‘fight’ for a proper dose and proper form of PPI…4) you might want to try probioticsProbiotics, brands used: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8970&PN=15) Read through here: Mspi/allergy info(‘main page’): https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2697&PN=1&TPN=1July 7, 2008 at 7:55 pm #53509AnonymousInactiveDoc says absolutely NO nutramigen. The first thing he said when he called was”reflux isnt the problem.” UGh, I know, I know. BUT_ right now I need to get the milk out of her poor little body:(
July 7, 2008 at 8:15 pm #53511hellbenntKeymasterif she’ll take the neocate, great! If not…you gotta do what you gotta do…
July 7, 2008 at 8:16 pm #53512AnonymousInactiveIt’s so easy for the docs to tell you to switch cold turkey. They think babies cannot tell the difference in taste between formulas. They are wrong! There is a user on here (Erica). Her son Owen developed an aversion from switching ‘cold turkey’ from one formula to Neocate “cold turkey” per her doctors orders and after that he would not go back and he was NG tube fed until he finally started sucking from a bottle again. She can tell you more about this, hopefully she’ll see this post, or maybe you can PM her.
I would transition slowly. The milk proteins need to get out of her system, but it is not doing any extra harm by doing the slow transition. It’s better than a feeding aversion. I am not trying to scare you, I just don’t want to see this happen to you. Also, your baby could still have reflux. I would not take meds away yet. Don’t rock the boat too much. If it were me, I would transition the formula first, keep her on meds, then maybe experiment with a med wean if you think she can handle it and is comfortable enough once fully on Neocate for a month & no problems.Hang in there! I’ve SO been through this SAME experience!! It’s gonna get better. Neocate was a lifesaver for us.July 7, 2008 at 9:23 pm #53517AnonymousInactiveI switched cold turkey from Nutrimagen to Neocate w/o any difficulty. My Dr. did not advise me to do it slowly and I did not have any other information on making a slow transition. I think that Laura and Jill have some valid points but you have to do what you think is best. Like you, I could not stand the thought of giving my baby something that I knew was hurting him and didn’t want to give him another ounce.
I can tell that things have been really rough for you. I hope that your LO gets relief soon.

I am glad she is taking it w/o a problem. It took us a long time to switch. Hope it continues to go smoothly!
