My 4th son Parker was born 1-9-13 and i planned on breastfeeding and everything had been going great until the last week or so .. hes started breaking out in a rash and his stools are very mucusy(sp).. Im almost positive its a milk allergy and soy allergy .. but well its been over 5 yrs since ive done this and with my 5 yr old i just switched him over to elecare .. instead of trying to take milk and soy out of my diet .. so any insight or help would be great as its starting to take a toll on me .. all the screaming and eating ever 10-15 mins and no sleep .. =( I dont want to stop breastfeeding .. however im at a point i just want to make him feel better =( ..
February 18, 2013 at 10:52 am #71681hellbenntKeymasterany change takes 2 weeks so if it’s you changing your diet or if it’s baby getting used to elecare- same time frame- so if you want to keep breastfeeding please do!!
Reasons a breastfeeding mother might think her baby is reacting to something in her milk:
*poop that is not ‘normal’ mustardy yellow, seedy breastfed baby poop
*mucous in poop; mucous can look like: snot, jelly, cottage cheese, stringy like the inside of a banana
*foul-smelling poop
*stinky, foul-smelling painful gas
*straining and grunting to poop and, when baby finally does poop, it’s soft
the TED takes two weeks and then you start adding foods in to see what you CAN eat.
Research all you can! You are your baby’s best advocate!

February 19, 2013 at 2:25 am #71684AnonymousInactiveHi, I’m sorry your little one is having troubles. It can be so hard at times to know what to do to help our babies. (((HUG)))
I know of numerous mothers that were able to continue breastfeeding their babies by taking a probiotic/enzyme supplement. For some mother’s they have still had to avoid some foods but the probiotics/enzymes helped a lot with pain and digestion. I also know of one mom that they just didn’t help enough so she had to quit nursing. But I definatley believe they would be worth a try. You may have already looked at this link and/or my blog (see signature but if you haven’t please read. https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=16038%20
I wish I had more time to write a reply but I wish you the best in finding answers and help for your little one.
February 19, 2013 at 2:17 pm #71690AnonymousInactiveAgain thank you =) We went to the dr today and his dr has sent his stool sample off to get it tested for blood and “other” things after the pictures of his stool i showed him .. he also agreed that since he was gaining weight i could start the milk and soy free diet and see where that led us .. however we have to check back in with the dr in 2 weeks and then again after that 2 weeks so we will have a total of 4 weeks to try and see . The dr told me if his stools havent lost their mucousy(sp) texture then we will be going to a G.I. dr .. so im hoping that by getting rid of the milk and soy it will fix my little one .
