He hasn’t had a motility drug but don’t these drugs help the muscles to *clamp down* so that the food isn’t going back up into the esophagus (as well as speed up gastric emptying)?
We’ve taken him off the drug for now, I just couldn’t bear to hear him be so unhappy when I don’t know what is wrong. I don’t think we will put him back on it.
I don’t know what a motility test entails – does anyone have a link? I don’t want to put him through anything unless it is absoultely necessary.
He’s only just had a ph study done last week – the Dr kept telling us that he would eventually grow out of the reflux and wasn’t certain that all his symptoms were attributable to the reflux. The ph study showed 130 episodes in 24 hours. BUT he’d almost completely quit eating by the time they did the test, after 4 days of no meds, he only took a few ounces of formula the whole 24 hours of the test! We have yet to have our follow up appt after the test but I don’t think it can be very accurate under such circumstances.
Will write an introduction when I get the chance.
It doesn’t seem that there are many toddlers mothers here – most of the posts are about infants. Are there others with toddlers with reflux?
Thanks so much for your replies. You’ve pretty much confirmed what we thought.
