Hi there –
Connor started on Neocate about 48 hours ago. I haven’t really noticed much change – he has some good feedings and some bad ones, but he had been like that before anyway. But the doctor said to give it two weeks so I’m just holding out hope that we’ll see some improvement then.
Anyway, just a couple of questions. He’s had a rash on his face that looks a lot like eczema – it started when he was on the nutramigen, got worse on soy, and is still there. I can’t tell if it’s worse or getting better or what. I know neocate is supposed to help clear this up, but is it weird that it looks like it’s getting worse? For some reason I feel like maybe this is because the allergens are leaving, it’s showing up, but I don’t know if that makes any sense.
Also, he just had his first poop that really looks like it’s changed, and it was seedy like a BF poop. I thought typical neocate poops are dark green/black – so is this ok? Anyone have this type of poop? Or is this transitional maybe?
Lastly, he’s been pretty gassy – but he’s always pretty gassy. Does this go away, get worse, etc?
Any experience would be great – thanks so much!

It looks like Connor’s poop might be transitioning to the dark green that I’ve heard neocate poop looks like, so maybe the seedy stuff is/was transitional while he’s getting the allergens out of his system? He was actually mellow/content last night and this AM – not getting my hopes up yet but maybe it’s started to go through his system?
I’d love any feedback from anyone who has used neocate – thanks so much!

Not sure about the rash. could need time, but could it be the dry weather? the soap/shampoo you are using? Is it any better today?
the gassiness got better when their systems adjusted to the new formula.
Hang in there! I would give it the full two weeks though, as others have reported even longer, but I would say for Dylan it took a good week of worse or no change and then slowly got better the second week, and then we had a “normal” very spitty baby….. Carter was younger when we got him on Neocate so I don’t think as much damage was done to his gut, so he got better quicker…..

He just had a huge blow out poop, but it was the dark green color – so I think you’re right. Things seem to be moving on out of his system. It STUNK to high heaven. Gross.
I think the rash is improving today. We noticed his bum is way less red than it has been so I think he may have had a rash I didn’t even realize. And he’s had 3 feedings in a row with no screaming after – trying not to get hopes up but hopefully this is the start of a turn for the better?

Once we did the Neocate, his system was just much more calm and it was all much less acidic and painful that the 15mgs of Prevacid was enough to take care of it. He did spit up until 18 months! YUCK! but just a laundry problem at that point and we were all sleeping so I couldn’t care less about the laundry.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for you, as you are starting at a younger age than Dylan was (closer to Carter) so it did get better MUCH quicker.Hooray!!!!monty1232008-12-11 12:17:45
December 11, 2008 at 10:36 pm #59480AnonymousInactiveI’ll add that it took about 2.5-3weeks to see a thourough change in Elizabeth. She was such a different kid afterwards though! Totally worth every penny…
December 12, 2008 at 1:22 pm #59498AnonymousInactiveIt took us at least a month on Neocate and I would say longer to see the end result of a good baby.
