I haven’t posted on here in quite awhile but I just had to come back & post this update. Hopefully maybe it can save someone else a lot of misery.
I’m going to try & make this as short as possible. Brayden is just turning 10 months old & we just moved into a new house about three weeks ago. In our old rental house we found out that we had mold in our attic. which we were very lucky to even have known that because the way our attic was most people would have never even went up there. It was just a small square in the ceiling.Anyway we had a professional come out & check it so we could be sure what we were dealing with. Turned out that we had a very bad mold called aspergelous (Not sure about spelling) & a few others but this was the worst & most toxic. The whole time Brayden went through all of this acid reflux stuff it was so confusing because it didn’t make sense my other child never had it & none of the medicines were working.
I knew because I read on the internet that mold could cause reflux & that it was most harmful to babies & elderly, basically immune compromised people. I just never really honestly thought that it could have such a big part in causing it. Boy was I wrong!
It took us over a year to finally find a new place. Finally though we found a house & moved. I kid you not that he has not had his medicine in two weeks & absolutely NO signs of reflux at all!! He has even had a cold almost the whole time we have lived here & usually refux would get worse with a cold but there is nothing! I am still in shock I think but sooo happy!
So basically I want to warn anyone here that mioght have mold in your home to get it checked out by a professional & if it is a bad type get your kids out of the house. Even if you go stay with a family member for a week or two just to see if it helps. Like I said I would have had no idea at all that it was even in that house because it was only in the attic. There were no other major signs of it. The only reason I found out was because a friend of mine fromk highschool lived there before & told me that there was mold in there. So after me & my daughter had this runny stuffy nose & cough thing that wouldn’t seem to go away I made my boyfriend go up there and look. Low & behold it was full of a nasty looking mold. I saw pictures & it was so gross & everywhere! I wonder how many other symptoms that we just assumed were a cold, allergy or mood swings were possibly from that.
I’m just thankful that we moved & my son is doing wonderful now! I hope this can help someone else out there too!! Good luck to all of you & your precious babies!!
October 1, 2012 at 3:23 pm #71008AnonymousInactiveOh I would also like to add that at probably around 5-6 mos I started making my son homemade baby formula using the recipe on the Weston Price website. My baby supposedly had a milk/soy allergy but surprisingly when I made that formula & used low temp pasteurized non homogenized whole milk he drank it just fine. They have a hypoallergenic recipe for babies with a true milk allergy & also goat milk recipe as well. In my opinion the stuff that they put in store bought formula is bad enough to make their little bodies reject it. I’m not pushing my opinions on anyone but it wouldn’t be a bad thing to research about. One video that was very interesting was a youtube video that shows them making formula & what kinds of crazy chemicals that they put in them. It’s honestly sad! Google it & I’m sure you’ll find lots of info. Another good search would be baby formula & excitotoxins.

Thank you for posting your very interesting information on here! I had never heard of mold causing reflux. I might just have to add a page about that to my blog!
My daughter is 11 months old and I quit breastfeeding at 8 months. I don’t like giving her formula but haven’t known for sure what else to do. My husband and I are thinking of getting our own milk goat! 🙂
I think surely all babies would do better on home made formula.
October 2, 2012 at 8:07 pm #71018hellbenntKeymasterYou go, MAMA!
I love when it’s the PARENTS who figure this out!I have terrible mold allergies, but for me the result is w/ my sinuses- but I could see how babies’ ears/nose/throats are all so close together and it makes sense to me that irritation one place could cause a domino effect- for instance sinus drips down esophogus, irritates it, comes back up, etc…anyway, I’m rambling, but YAY YAY YAY for your baby and for YOU!!!~lauraOctober 4, 2012 at 11:44 pm #71027AnonymousInactiveThank you! I am really happy too. I am honestly still a little in shock though. I really didn’t expect that moving would make this big of a difference. It’s like he never had reflux at all!!
I know that certain molds can cause all sorts of terrible things. Especially black mold of course, but the type that was in our attic was like one step below that. I read some things online about black mold causing this one family horrible problems with their babies. I guess she was pregnant in the home & raised the kids there for a few years. It’s really sad. Something to always watch out for though!!
And I am all about the homemade baby formula. Well obviously breast milk is best but if that isn’t an option women need to know that there are other options out there. I think we are just so “programmed” to believing everything that society tells us. My pediatrician would probably even disagree with it but I did my research & I know best:)
