Miralax- how long?

We just started Ella on Miralax due to about 2 weeks of constipation requiring suppositories for pooping. Does anyone have experience with this and know how long we’ll need to keep her on it? I read that after an incidence of constipation the gut requires time to heal and if you have another bout of constipation then it takes longer to heal. So, I just wondered how long I need to keep her on it so she can heal. Thanks in advance.

1. Have you found a good dose for her? We had to work around the dose for Matthew for a while until we got it right

2. Usually, miralax is longer term… it takes a couple of days to work and then works as long as you have it in your system.. ie it does not fix the underlying problem, so unless they want you to give it for a while, i am not sure what they chose that specific drug? I woudl say min of a month but again.. it works kind of like fiber… as long as you take it you will be fine but if you stop and there is an underlying cause for the constipation, it will come back

I think the underlying problem was that she had a couple of hard stools due to new foods and then learned to hold it in. I chose Miralax after reading various drugs and side-effects and deciding that was the best choice. We have found a pretty good dose for her and I figure if she has a few easy soft stools she’ll be able to do it on her own more. So, you think a month though for her to get used to going on her own?
