Trace is constipated from too many bananas thanks to my mom. i got him milk of mag and the pharm. said she thinks he is too young, but i know some of you have used it. i dont know what the dose would be. but now i am thinking i should have gotten him the over the counter miralax, bc i have used that on him before.

does anyone know how much milk of mag i can give him though, and does the magnesium hydroxide interefere with PPI’s?

i am not sure about this.. but i just wanted to comment..that when i asked my pharmacist how much mylanta to give him a while back.. she said “oh no, he cant have that!, its not for children and expecially infants”. oh ya and was against that he was on prevacid.

soo anyhow i am sure the milk of mag is fine. and i also wanted to know what it was made out of?? i am not familiar with it.. and what it is for?? just constipation?

yeah its magnesium hydroxide (which is also in mylanta). it can be used as a laxative or antacid depending on the dose given i guess…but it is generally for constipation.

he just exploded..ugh i hope the prevacid dose i gave him earlier didnt just run right though him. does anyone know if that dose counts?

Yes, the dose is fine. And it is fine to give it with an immediate release PPI, but not delayed. As for the dose, we haven’t been able to find the right one- right now we’ve been dealing with constipation in a major way for a few days now and I think she’s going to need a fleet enema tonight b/c she can’t get it out. With the MoM, either we have constipation or diarrhea. I’m going to get my mom to bring some miralax. Is the OTC version the same as the prescription?

Oh yeah, we’ve been giving at least 1tsp a day and that does nothing, 2tsp a day causes her to BLOW!

yeah the miralax is the same.

LORI!! today I am giving the prevacid in applesauce because i am hoping the caracream comes in the mail today. UGH! do you know how far apart it has to be?!! GRRR

this really sucks, i cant find any info on spacing the milk of mag from a delayed release PPI….and plus now his reflux is flairing bc i missed a dose on saturday and then last night when i gave him the beads in applesauce, he didnt eat a full meal after that

oh man this stinks i expected the caracream to be here by now, i sent a check 2 weeks ago

Good luck. I don’t know why it takes so long sometimes. I would call to find out about the status. What a pain.
