Hi-
I know there have been lots of posts about babywearing and I’ve checked out the links. I think I want to get a mei tai carrier mainly to use as an alternative to the Baby Bjorn for front carrying (my son is almost 3 months old and very long – 95th percentile for height). Can anyone recommend a good place to buy a mei tai (retail store or on-line)? Cost is not a major issue. Thanks!July 31, 2007 at 6:40 pm #40244AnonymousInactiveWell, if cost WERE an issue, I have one I can give you! I LOVED it for the first 5-6 months of Caden’s life, but he has outgrown the need for it. He now sleeps on his back in his crib – something I never thought I would be able to say! So, I’m glad to pass mine along to someone who needs it like I did, but I would prefer to send it along to someone who is in financial need…otherwise I’ll probably give it to a friend or family member.
There are TONS of places to buy Mei-Tais. There is one mother who started her own business making and selling Mei-Tais. Her website is http://www.kozycarrier.homestead.com/I bought mine from a SAHM who makes them from her home close to where I live. Her website is http://www.cuddlepockets.com Her prices are more reasonable than the kozycarrier, but the kozy is a well known brand.I’m sure Laura will chime in and give you lots of other resources.Good luck!July 31, 2007 at 10:37 pm #40253hellbenntKeymasterwell, LOL:
kozy is great (have one)sachi carriers (want one, but won’t ever buy one bcse I don’t need anymore!)freehand carriers (have one)September 29, 2008 at 9:27 pm #57200AnonymousInactiveI second the babyhawk. To be fair, it’s the only mei tai I’ve tried, but there’s tons of choices and it’s super comfy (baby is 14 pounds so far).
September 29, 2008 at 10:00 pm #57206hellbenntKeymasterI love babywearing talk!!!
I still put Ari, 2 yrs old, about 25lbs, on my back from time to time!especially when he wants “UP!!” and I have breakfast to make, lunches to make & pack, a Kindergardener to get dressed, etc etcSeptember 30, 2008 at 1:31 pm #57242AnonymousInactiveI have a couple moby wraps that have been a life saver! Too bad I didn’t get it soon enough. I got it when dd was already 3 months old. It helped tremendously w/ her reflux. Kept her upright after feedings and allowed me to do things around the house w/ a calm baby.
Haven’t tried the mei tai’s even though I would love to have one. These are hard times ahead of us and who knows where the economy’s going at this point.
But all in all, I love baby wearing! Everybody who sees her in her moby thinks it’s so cute too! Baby wearing is practical and cute. 🙂
September 30, 2008 at 3:25 pm #57252AnonymousInactiveI have to put my two cents in for the Babyhawk. But like another poster, I haven’t actually tried any of the other mei tais. I remember checking out http://www.thebabywearer.com when I was first looking for a carrier other than the Bjorn. I decided on mei tai because it seemed like a good one for a new user (not so much extra fabric, wrapping, etc) and it went over both shoulders. I think I decided to go with Babyhawk because of easy-to-use website and fast shipping (especially if you choose one that they already have made). I wanted me as soon as I could get it!
I didn’t get mine until my LO was probably 2-3 months also. And, boy when I got it I wished I’d had it a lot sooner . I loved it!! I’ve also got a little chubby one (she’s 7 months and probably 20 pounds now) and she still fits in it great. If I’m not mistaken you can use Babyhawk up to 40 pounds I think?!?!One note…she was used to being carried facing out in the Bjorn so it took her a little bit of time to get used to being carried facing in in the mei tai. But it didn’t take her long to get use to it, and she LOVES it now. I gave the Bjorn to my sister (also my babysitter when I work) and she uses it. I just say this to let you know that my LO has no problem going back and forth between the two carriers.I’ve just started carrying her some on my back and she likes that too.Let me know if I can answer any other questions! -
