MD residents- Elemental formula- NEWS…

As of Oct 1st 2008, elemental formulas will be required to be covered by insurance companies for certain medical conditons. If you go to maryland.gov and search for “elemental formula coverage” then the MD House Bill 578 should pop up and you can read all about it. In the meantime, if you are battling an insurance company NOW, you should appeal them based on the FACT that they will be FORCED to cover you in a few month ANYWAY…

Wow that is fantastic news! Stupid question…does elemental mean Neocate and Elecare or does that also include Alimentum and Nutramigen?

Emily, I hear you sweetie!! just keep an eye out. I hope to see more states goign to this. I think it is IL and MN that have already done it and like I said, MD will be effective Oct 1. Write to congress and push to have this done in your state!!

Amy, elemental would be the amino acid based formulas- Elecare, Neocate and Nutramigen AA Lipil (not the same as regular nutramigen)

Alimentum & Nutramigen would classify as hypoallergenic formulas.

OK, that makes sense. I think I knew that and just forgot. Maybe it was just wishful thinking that hypoallergenic formulas would be included…hopefully someday!
