October 19, 2006 at 9:17 am #16048AnonymousInactiveSorry I’m having hard time getting in to it. But my daughter had many awful episodes where vomit would come out of her nose. It was horrible.
October 19, 2006 at 10:10 am #16060AnonymousInactiveSame here – Matthew went through them. Worse unconsolable crying but unfortunately the mouth and nose are connected – thickening our bottles helped a bit, but i understand it is 50/50chance
October 19, 2006 at 10:31 am #16063AnonymousInactivewell i guesss to get into the website you have to punch in the address and then they want some of youre info. what a pain in the but. if anyone sees it can you let me know??
October 19, 2006 at 10:44 am #16067AnonymousInactiveOK – sorry i was being lazy – i took a look at it. Let me tell you how Matthew’s episodes went because they were different. He would get a look on his face, as if saying, it is coming… he would start shaking his body and all of the sudden stuff would come through his nose. BUT once the stuff had come out, which took 2 seconds, he would be inconsolable. BUT i also picked him up immediately so he could stretch and get it all out.
The quality si not that good – is the spit up in her nose cominig in and out?? or she is not able to clear it? The second i looked at Matthew and knew it was happening, i would pick him up and the spit up came all at once and i helped him clear it…. is that what you usually do but you were just showing us on the video?? It seems like she is having a hard time breathing everytime? Matthew was not like that – it was more like he held his breath for 10seconds as it was coming out but once it did, he woudl just cry and cry.
Hope this makes sense. Maybe lori can comment
October 19, 2006 at 10:55 am #16072AnonymousInactivewell like i said before this was what i consider to be a very small episode. i always pick her up and suction out her nose. when she was first born she would stop breathing and this was happening up to 7 times a day, the episodes have decreased since then. sometimes she still turns a purple color i hope this makes sense
October 19, 2006 at 10:59 am #16075AnonymousInactiveAgain – when does she turn purple?? Matthew would stop breathing RIGHT before the episode… it is hard to see on the video… he would not turn purple afer the stuff had come out of his nose and had no trouble breathing then… it was all leading up to it.
I believe that Lori’s (or rather Hailey’s) episodes were similar to Matthew’s. The only thing that was not clear from your video was if she was having difficulty breathing afterwards??? Because Matthew never had that, once it cleared, it cleared
October 19, 2006 at 11:04 am #16079AnonymousInactiveshe has difficulty breathing when the stuff is actually in her nose and throat. she will sniff it back up and this is hard for her breathing. when she does settle down a little she is short of breath.
October 19, 2006 at 11:18 am #16084AnonymousInactiveYes, that is what i thought and that is different to what was going on with Matthew… Matthew cleared his nose very quickly…. check with Lori… i would however take the movie to the ped – it is different to what was happening to my son, so i just don’t know what to say!
October 19, 2006 at 12:44 pm #16095AnonymousInactiveHi Eileen… OK, I figured it out.
It was kind of hard for me to see what’s happening, so I just want to clarify to make sure. It looked like she had some spit up that she was trying to clear, and I saw some come out of her mouth I think, but I didn’t see anything come out of her nose. Does it usually come out of the nose or just kind of “block her nose”.
Hailey’s episodes did not look like that and they were more like Matthew’s. Actually most of Hailey’s happened at night, I think because she was lying flat and that was when she had her worst vomitting episodes, I think because she was sleeping, so it surprised her and then the crying coupled with the refluxing was just UGLY.
Anyhow, for us, I could usually tell it was going to happen because she’d make a sound. I knew that she was going to vomit, and then I’d pick her up. She’d gasp, and seem to hold her breath, and then at the same time she’d have a forceful vomit through her mouth, and a lot would come flying out of her nose as well. After it came out of her nose, she would screech the most inconsolable high pitched wailing crying that I’ve ever heard and that would lead to more projectile vomitting. It would then take a lot of effort to calm her down afterwards, but once it was all out, her breathing seemed fast (because she was so worked up) but fine otherwise.
I hate seeing videos of little babies in pain. It brings back such horrible memories of things that I’ve probably tried to suppress. That being said, I think that as many doctors as possible should be forced to sit there and watch as much horrific footage as they can stand, so that they understand what is happening and what our children are going through. Okay, enough crazy talk… my point is that I agree with Thais. Take the video to your doctor and see what they say. If she is turning blue, best to get him to look at it since this can sometimes mean that the airway is being compromised or that they are aspirating.
Good luck.

October 19, 2006 at 4:14 pm #16124AnonymousInactivethanks lori it usually comes out of her nose and not alot out of her mouth. it’s kind of like she’s holding it in so therefore the hard time with the breathing. when she was a little younger she used to have such violent episodes that she would loose control of her bowels, kind of like someone with epilepsy might do. well like i said she has worse episodes and the docs seem to think that she will just grow out of it i am sitting back and waiting for the long term effects of this
thanks again
October 19, 2006 at 7:33 pm #16139hellbenntKeymasterEileen,
there have been parents who research when there is a ped GI at a hospital (usually a children’s hospital) and then actually GO to the hospital with baby to SHOW someone what is going on…I hate to read that your doctor seems to just tell you she’ll just grow out of it!!
I wouldn’t take that!! I’m not being angry at you, but at all of the lousy doctors who don’t take babies in pain seriously
If she does this all the time, I’d go camp out around new doctors?
ugh
