hello all
I found this board back in 2007 when my first son had reflux. what a long difficult road that was. His was never controlled and a bottle refuser until sippy cups came along.. once we were off the bottles we never looked back. my second had reflux but was controlled and never refused the bottles. it was amazing..i am here now with my third who’s case is more complicated. He has MSPI and silent reflux. He is 3months old and it took up until last week and several formula changes to start him on elecare and get him to a GI. He is also on prevacid 15mg solut tabs a day half in the morning and half at night and zantac midday. We battled a week and half long bottle struggle than finally he started drinking for 4 days and now we are back to bottle struggles. the GI will not increase his medicine. I’m at a loss. My baby is in pain. I know what controlled reflux looks like, drinking bottles, sleeping no and a happy baby. i want to get there with my third one and get there asap.September 20, 2013 at 2:14 pm #72632hellbenntKeymasterJanuary 25, 2014 at 2:42 pm #72672hellbenntKeymasterplease help! share your story! January 26, 2014 at 10:15 am #72692AnonymousInactiveHe is 7 months now and we are still having rough feeds. I trailed nexium but he vomited it up and gagged. I am deciding on going back to Prevacid or Prilosec. I’m afraid his feeding is now behavioral and it’s really scaring me
January 27, 2014 at 7:45 am #72693hellbenntKeymasterTELL dr you need a feeding therapist – include Swallow Study – they’ll look at HOW baby feeds- chewing, swallowing, the mechanics – even if you feel it’s not mechanical, but behavioral ,at least you’ll get it checked out & be in touch w/ the people who deal with this…
I’d also consider a scope, an endoscopy to SEE what’s going on in there & they also take tiny biopsies – if there are EOS cells present it’ll let you know there’s an allergy/intolerance going on – if all is clear- no irritation, then you’ll know the meds are working and that it is behavioral…hang in there! do you have a good ped GI? who’s treating baby? what formula? breastfeeding? solids? how’s poop & gas?
January 27, 2014 at 12:36 pm #72696AnonymousInactivewe have a feeding therapist and i’ve reached out to her today. did a swallow study.. he was in the realm of normal no aspirationg. I started prilosec yesterday and will trial erythromicyn if the prilosec doesn’t fully do the job. gagging is behavioral as the girls at daycare told me when he gags they say Josh stop.. and he does.. we are going in the wrong direction with this feeding issue. He’s on elecare and solids too. Poops have been tough due to solids but no gas. His reflux seems controlled. No fussiness, crying, lays on his tummy for tummytime now and happy.. sleeping is better.. good nights and off nights but we never had good nights before. its driving me nuts and scaring me to death
