I have been doing TED for 3 months now (Turkey, white rice, zucchini, squash, olive oil, sea salt). I have tried adding a couple items in with no success. Family members have suggested that maybe since DD has gone so long without eating anything except the above it shocks her stomach. This seems logical because I know the couple of times I have cheated my stomach was definitely upset. Has anyone else found this to be true? Sometimes when I would add something in her poop would turn green and be stinky but no mucuos and other times she was just really bloated and gassy. I would usually try new foods 1 day on and 1 day off for 2 days. Should I wait a little longer before taking them out of my diet? I just hate to push the issue because then it takes so much longer to get her back to normal.

are you taking probiotics?is she?how about pancreatic enzymes? read through here for more about that;October 13, 2008 at 8:23 pm #57664AnonymousInactiveDD is on a probiotic and other homeopathic medicines. She was on Zantac. I changed peds about a month ago and finally started seeing some results with the probiotic and homeopathics.
I asked the Dr about digestive enzymes becasue sometimes I think DD has an issue with digesting as opposed to an intolerance with foods I introduce but the Dr said she was too young and they could actually cause more damage. She is really sensitive to what I eat. It seems that TED has been the greatest help in making her feel better. We just had an IGG test done to see if she has any allergies. We should have the results by next week.I am not taking anything. I have been scared to even try a multi vitamin. I was considering taking the same probiotic as DD since I know she can tolerate it. Is there a certain brand you would recommend for the Pancreatic enzyme?claresmom2008-10-13 20:29:19

like this one:October 14, 2008 at 3:03 pm #57687AnonymousInactiveHi there,
I had to do an elimination diet with McKenzie and for the longest time I could not at ANYTHING back in (we are now down to wheat, soy and dairy and peanuts). I have often wondered the same thing as you if eating it is just too hard on the system since McKenzie isn’t used to having it. McKenzie never gets the mucous/green poo anymore, but she will have a hard time sleeping at night, and more digested spit ups occur. Here is something that does seem to help at least lets me “cheat” every so often..a sandwich once a week 1/2 a soy latte once in a while (I am too scared to try soy). I take digestive enzymes. I found when I gave them to McKenzie, it was horrible on her system, but when I take them, it just makes my milk even more elemental…does that make sense? I take an enzyme called Pancreatin and it is by NOW foods. My GI said it was fine for me to take, but he didn’t know if it would help. But I ran out once, and I saw a different baby then Good luck!!One more quick thing…I saw you got the IgG allergy test done. I was told when we got ours that I would currently need to be eating the food for things to show up…so if there is something that shows up negative on the test and then you eat it and there is a reaction, it could be because your milk has been free of that stuff for so long that it didn’t show up.b’s mom2008-10-14 15:08:14
October 14, 2008 at 3:11 pm #57689AnonymousInactiveHi,
I do think that once your baby has been on TED breastmilk for a long while, just about any new food added back in can shock their little system temporarily. I found that with my Nathan, just about every time I added a new food in (even just a new veggie or fruit), he would have a few bad feedings in a row (that was our main telltale sign of intolerance — arching, screaming during nursing, a few hours after the new food was added). But I eventually got frustrated enough to push forward with the new food for a few days — I can’t remember exactly how long — maybe 5? And then make a judgement call as to how he was doing. A lot of the time, it was just one or two bad days and then he was ok with the new food. Sometimes, though, I did have to cut it out and try again later. By the way, he could handle almost zero protein in my diet for about 7 or 8 months, but he did handle most veggies and fruits just fine. Hope this helps. Hang in there!! It’s stressful I know.

I thought I had been on a restricted diet for a long time, but you definitely take top honors for what you are doing. I am sure you must be terribly bored with your foods but it is probably worth it when you see her comfort level (in comparison to when she is reacting). Hang in there! And just think, later in life when you feel like you are facing a challenge too big to cope with, you will be able to look back at these months of TED and say “I did that…I can do anything!”

Thanks for all of the great advice and support! It is great to have someone understand the reasoning behind what I am doing. Most people just think I am crazy and that I should just let Clare be “fussy”. I would much rather have to sacrifice than make poor DD suffer!October 21, 2008 at 12:53 pm #57914AnonymousInactivehave you tried other grains like quinoa or millet? How about sweet potatoes? (i’m just thinking of your own nutrition here!) those are typically low offenders and could make a big diff. in your own diet.
i think the advice about going 5 days would be a good bet…just to see if it is just a shock to her system.
also–i think enzymes and probiotics help a lot. I take them and give them to finn. You could try taking them first and then see..
I use a non-dairy probiotic found at the health food store and ‘Digestzyme” by Tranformation http://www.transformationenzymes.com/
the info. they sent with the enzyme described how to give them to infants. they said that mom should also be on them and that infants only need them when they have severe digestive problems…
and..remember, you are a dedicated, loving mama. -
