Locking shoulder belt for boosters

Hi there. I haven’t been on the boards in a long time. Just too busy and thankfully reflux now seems a part of the distant past around here, thank God!

Anyway, I have a carseat question. My middle child is in a booster seat. When using boosters, are you supposed to pull the seat belt way out to put it in “lock” mode for your child, or do you just buckle them in and let the seat belt be unlocked? I’ve always locked it because it seemed safer to me, but now we have a new vehicle and when you lock the belt it won’t retract far enough to unlock when it’s time to get out, so you have to remove the entire seat and re-route the belt again.

I have missed you!! I happen to work next door to an agency who specializes in seat belt/car seat safety for children and the belt is to be put on how you would put yours on. If in a crash or needed to slow down suddenly, the automatic locking/tightening would occur protecting your child. They have been so handy to consult as the kids get older.

Hope all is well for you up in NoDak – I hear you have had a lot of snow up your way.

Hey Christine… you sure have been missed around here LOL! That is a great question and I didn’t even know you could “lock” the seatbelt! Robin thanks for the answer I bet this will help a ton of us!

Thanks ladies. I appreciate your help! I’m putting her in the last row where the seat belt works much better, but I really would prefer her to be in the middle of the second row. The other problem with the middle seatbelt is that it gets hung up going back even when it’s not in the locked position because it sits kind of behind the back of the high back booster. It’s frustrating, but I ordered a seat belt extender and I’ll see if that helps.

I still have this irrational compulsion to lock her in though, even though I know it’s probably not neccessary.
