My daughter is starting to get a little large for regular swaddling blankets, I was wondering if anyone uses anything other than a regular swaddling blanket to swaddle their little GERDling at night? A couple of nights ago she woke up with the blanket around her face, which freaked me out! I was thinking maybe a toddler bed flat sheet, and using that like a blanket. Does anyone have any other suggestions that aren’t too heavy that may work?

She would only sleep swaddled but as she got bigger none of her blankets were big enough to keep her swaddled. I did use a thin beach towel at one time but I was worried that it was too warm so I abandoned that idea. The toddler sheet would worry me because if she did get out of it she could possibly get it twisted and wrapped around her neck. I’ve heard of babies being entrapped and suffocated by crib sheets that didn’t stay tucked in, so I’d be scared. I’m sure it’s pretty rare, but it has happened.
So, you see I had the same dilemna….
I think http://www.onestepahead sells swaddle blankets and they have two sizes so maybe the bigger one would work for her. Yeah, here it is. It says the large one is for 15 – 22 lbs.

I didn’t know about these at the time so I ended up using a pair of toddler sized shorts and tucking her arms into the waistband. It worked well and I never dreamed up any scenario where she could possibly hurt herself, so I stuck with that until she could sleep without swaddling.
How’s Dagney doing?

(mini straight jacket as my mother in law called it ) It was the ONLY thing that worked for Sarah. Eventually I had to iron on some extra velcro b/c it wasn’t tight enough anymore! I’m so glad to be out of that phase! The largest size was 15-22 pounds. I found ours at Babies R Us. I know they have them online if you don’t have a store nearby.
They make them in fleece (heavier) or cotton (thinner) materials.
Hope you find something!January 3, 2007 at 8:43 am #21565AnonymousInactiveThanks, ladies!
I forgot that I actually have a couple of those swaddleme blankets, but she would always get out of them when she was smaller! I used it last night and it worked great, and I wasn’t worried all night there would be a problem. She likes to have her arms out, so I just secured it under her arm pits, around her waist, and it worked great!
