I know this board is for infants but I really need to vent and I know you guys would understand!
My older kids (the twins) are small. My 1sr guy was 5.11 and my smallest was 4.8. So now that they will be 7 in April my smallest guy is only 38lbs. Yes only 38! I have alwasy been saying to my pedi that I think something is going on with him. He would always say well he is charting the way he should since he was small. Finally I made an appt with Ryder’s pedi GI for him and he says yes soemthing is wrong for him to be that small. Plus he said he has a hard time swallowing food. he will spit meat out and drinks all the time- another sign of reflux. So he is sheduled for a endo next Wed.Ia m so MAD that I let my pedi just pat me on the head and say he is fine when is clearly isn’t! He is pale all the time and has bag under his eyes.I just wish I had listened to my mom instincts. I know he will be fine but to have to do this on a 6.5 year old stinks, but at least we will have answers. The GI pedi thought it maybe allergic gastongtic–okay I know I spelled it wrong but I hope you guys got the idea of what I am trying to write. Does anyone know what this? It’s not the same thing that Ryder has so not sure what we are up againist.February 5, 2008 at 3:09 pm #48022AnonymousInactiveI’m so sorry to hear that your son is having trouble gaining weight. I know what it’s like to worry about that, and to have a feeling that something is wrong, but not to be listened to. Hailey hasn’t gained even a pound since she turned two and I’m petrified. I hope that the endo gives you answers. If not, I would ask for a metabolic workup and allergy testing as well to make sure that you’re not dealing with something else. Good luck. Please keep us posted.
February 6, 2008 at 1:26 pm #48048AnonymousInactiveI am sorry about your ped. That is exactly why I have lost A LOT of respect for doctors! They always say to me too “oh, its normal” or “oh, he’s fine”.. when clearly they arent. Its soo annoying!
I am not sure about what it is they are looking for.. but I would love to know how it goes, and what it ends up being! It got me thinking too that Shane is small..pale.. and bags under his eyes as well…and maybe there is something else up with him too! But we had a endoscopy that only showed that he was still refluxing ..but not much of anything else! …
Please keep me informed! Best Wishes with the endoscopy!February 13, 2008 at 7:12 pm #48203AnonymousInactiveWell we had the endo and it went well but there was some signs of possible allergic esophagitis. Which is what we thought but he couldn’t 100% say it till the biospsies come back
Has anyone had to deal with this? What do you do with a 6.5 year old?BTW is there a sister board for older kids out there somewhere? Since I am now dealing with an almost 7 year old, but still have my 21 month old too!February 14, 2008 at 11:21 am #48213AnonymousInactiveThis forum is amazing, but there aren’t too many moms on here dealing with EE (eosinophilic esophagitis aka allergic esophagitis). You can also check out http://www.parent-2-parent.com/forum and look at the subforum “Eosinophilic Esophagitis”. There are a lot of parents there dealing with it. Good luck.
