My little guy, Drew, is 5 1/2 months now and is on 3ML of Prilosec twice a day. The medicine seems to work during the day. When he refluxes, it doesn’t seem to hurt him. However, the nights are just insane! For the past couple weeks the night time went from bad to worse. The nights were never good, but I could deal with them. I called the specialist two weeks ago and he upped the meds to the amount above, but it hasn’t seemed to work. I have an appointment with the specialist in two weeks. I’m hoping that maybe he’ll switch his medication. I read a lot about prevecid (sp) on this sight . . . has that worked well for any of you? Or is there any other meds that really helped your little ones at night?
Drew also seems to have a lot of gas lately. I think that might not be helping at night either.Today I just feel bitter toward the whole situation. Sometimes I sit and ask the Big Guy upstairs why this has to happen to any child. I feel so bad for my little guy. It just sucks that they have to deal with this. I try to tell myself everyday that this won’t last forever, and sometimes it works, but after the past couple nights, I’m just irritated.Anyway, thanks so much for listening. It’s so nice to know that I can vent to others who can relate.AnnFebruary 11, 2009 at 10:31 am #60943AnonymousInactiveI’m so sorry you’re feeling this way. I can completely relate. I still have days like you’re describing (had one yesterday actually).
Prevacid has worked wonders for many (us included) on here. The key though (w/ any reflux med) is to make sure the dose is enough b/c many times it is not. Have you checked out marci-kids.com to compare your Prilosec dose to their recommended dose? Also remember you can split up your dose how you want (ie: 2mL in the morning & 4mL in the evening? to help w/ nights). You can also do Zantac/Axid but space out 4hrs apart from Prilosec. You can do Mylanta but space out 1-2 hrs from Prilosec (you can do this w/ Zantac/Axid though). Also, is your Prilosec compounded? If this is the case then the effectiveness of the med is much lower as it is probably not compounded correctly. This is addressed on marci-kids website but also in Laura’s groupie intro.
With regards to his gas/tummy… what formula is he on? or is he breastfed?
Hang in there…

I breastfeed. I watch everything I eat. Besides mylacon drops . . . is there anything else that you can recommend for gas?AnnFebruary 11, 2009 at 3:18 pm #60951AnonymousInactiveYou can give mylanta supreme it has the mylicon meds in it (just make sure you space it 4hrs from the prilosec) it may help with some of the reflux pain as well (1ml at a time, up to 5ml/day) it can cause loose stools so look out for those. Prevacid worked wonders for us as well. It was the only med we every tried besides the useless Zantac!
February 11, 2009 at 4:24 pm #60954AnonymousInactiveThanks for the info Beth. I called the specialist today, and they changed my follow up appt to tomorrow . I’m going to talk to him about both the Prevacid, and the mylanta supreme. Maybe a change of medication will help my little man sleep better.
Thanks so much!AnnFebruary 11, 2009 at 9:06 pm #60960hellbenntKeymasterhi & welcome!
