I have been hesitant to post, as I’m afraid my world may come crashing down on me. But, it has been over a month with things going so much better.
Gabby is now eating better. She weighs 14 lbs (born at 6 lbs) and her weight gain is slow, but steady. She’s gaining on average a pound a month, sometimes a bit more. She is eating anywhere from 20 – 30 oz a day, but mostly lower end. Most bottles range from 4 – 6oz. She is also eating 1/4 cup of oatmeal or rice daily. The doc says I can start other solids, but I’m waiting til six months.
Sleep has suddenly got better. She sleeps from 10 – 5 pretty consistently and sometimes she sleeps all the way til 8. She’s become a power napper, sometimes napping 3 hour stretches during the day.
I still have a few concerns though, and that’s why I haven’t posted lately. I am truly waiting for her to snap out of this good streak. She still isn’t eating the recommended 2 oz per pound, but she’s happy and gaining, so I’m trying not to count oz per day. She also still has breastfed looking stools, not watery or mucusy, but not formed like formula stools should be. She has not been breastfed since 12 weeks and there are still seeds in there. I just don’t get it. I am starting to wondering if she is a little milk intolerant or if this is just the way her poop is. Sometimes she seems to struggle with her bottle a bit, but there is no arching or crying. I’m thinking the reflux comes up and gags her but doesn’t hurt becuase she’s willing to struggle through.
Anyways, thought I’d share the news. Hopefully, I won’t be posting in the Boo Hoo section any time soon. I hope each passing day brings your little ones more relief.

January 2, 2007 at 8:16 pm #21547AnonymousInactiveI’m so glad to hear she is feeling better, eating and gaining, and sleeping!! Hooray!!
I wouldn’t be too worried about her poop. I think there’s a wide variety of normal when it comes to those things. Maybe ask the doctor at her next visit, but I’m sure it’s normal.
I hope things continue to go well!
January 2, 2007 at 8:20 pm #21549AnonymousInactiveThat is great news!! I know the fear of walking on egg shells waiting for the roof to come crashing in! Hopefully she’ll be wonderful from here on out!
I’m not sure what to tell you about her stools, other than maybe every baby is just a little different? Sarah has always had softer stools, even long after breastfeeding (although no seeds). I did find that bananas make her constipated (or at least have harder stools).
I agree not to stress about counting ounces. Some babies just need more/less than others and it is normal for them. I think a pound a month, give or take, is pretty good and doesn’t sound like anything to be too concerned about at this point.
Again, congrats and I hope she continues to be soooo happy!

I was just thinking about you and your little one yesterday and remembering one of your last posts about her not eating and sitting in her bouncy seat happy as a clam as long as you didn’t try to feed her. The reason I was thinking about this is that we have had some days just like that lately. I’ve been near tears for two days now, and I was wondering what ever happened with Gabriella.
I am SO happy to hear that she is better, both for your sake, but also because it gives me hope that good days are possible again. I just keep waiting for that day when things start to turn around. Reading your post made me hope that it will be soon!
