Hi ladies, I have a question. I want to know if this reflux is like being on a roller coaster. My baby seems to do better for a while and then she’s back to being very uncomfortable and crying. Today was one of those days. She didn’t eat much and was miserable all day. Sometimes she will go a few days where she is happy and eating better, then it happens so fast that we feel like we are at square one again!!! This is sooooooooo FRUSTRATING! She has an apt with the GI on Feb 12, and I am praying to god he can help us, but I am afraid that because she has picked up on her weight and there has been some improvement, that he won’t change anything. She is up every hour at night, and hardly sleeps all day either, that unfortunately never changes. Thanks for listening, god I hope she outgrows this soon. My first baby was colic and this reflux outweighs the colic, this is pure hell!!!

It is possible that your baby has outgrown her Prevacid dose. This does happen, so I would check on the marci site to see what her dose should be for her age and weight. Also, teething, sickness (colds/drainage), allergies, etc. all tend to cause the reflux to flare.
Have you started her on any solids? If so, maybe she is reacting to something new?Hang in there. I found that even though the reflux ride is up and down, eventually the ups come more often and the downs aren’t nearly as low.February 2, 2008 at 8:45 pm #47941AnonymousInactiveThanks for your reply, I think her dose does need to be higher. I will definately check that out. She has been teething for months now, so I don’t think that’s what it is, but WHO knows. She sees her dietcian also on the 12th, but I did try her on some solids, she really doesn’t want anything to do with it, which kind of worries me. I stopped trialling with solids unti lwe see the GI & dietician, just to be sure. Thanks for listening and for the advice. By the way I have tried to get her pic on lillypie and I can’t make it any smaller, I have tried everything, any advice on that??
February 2, 2008 at 10:40 pm #47943AnonymousInactiveThe reflux rollercoaster is my least favorite ride to be on!! It’s such a guessing game! In our house, the main culprits of fussiness revolved around reflux, ear infections, and teething. It was usually one of those three but figuring out which one it was drove me crazy on more than one occasion! I hope you’re able to figure it out soon. I have just recently felt comfortable making “future” plans (shopping, weekend trips etc…) without feeling scared about if it would be a “bad day”. I used to have to live so spur of the moment b/c I never knew from one day to the next if she would be happy!!! I don’t miss that!
When I change my picture on lilypie I have to use the photo editing program on my computer (Adobe Photoshop) to save the picture at the lowest resolution possible. If I were to blow up my lilypie pictures the quality would be HORRIBLE but that tiny they look OK. That was the only thing that worked for me!
February 3, 2008 at 8:39 am #47946AnonymousInactiveit is probably the worst rollercoaster ride known to man. Babies all have good and bad days, but with reflux the bad days are so bad. They will get fewer and fewer over time… but it does take time. It sounds like the meds need to be increased due to the poor sleep you mentioned. Good Luck.
February 3, 2008 at 7:18 pm #47957AnonymousInactiveThank you to all, I am looking into the Marci sight to look up her dosage. I am a little pissed at her ped who said 2 months ago that he didn’t need to see her for another 2 months. I know exactly what your talking about trying to decide from one day to the next if you should go anywhere. My days are all the same, wake up at 4 am and go to bed at 10 pm then up every hour and no sleep in between. So that would be life summed up in a sentance. I pretty much stay home every day. I am not seeing any light at the end of the tunnel yet, but I am sure it’s there. OK ok I just had to vent!!!!! TracyE2008-02-03 19:20:02

February 4, 2008 at 10:56 am #47967AnonymousInactiveHello , I have a 5 week old and I feel like I never know what is going to happen next, Has anyone tried changing the bottles????? I have been told to change to dr browns. At this point I feel that nothing is going to work. My daughter is on Alimentum and Zantac along with cereal in her formula. She is vomitting more now then when I was first told she had reflux. Pain is better but vomitting is now so much worse
February 4, 2008 at 1:10 pm #47974AnonymousInactiveReflux is a BIG roller coster ride! There for the longest time I couldn not go anywhere with AShlynn, because I never knew when it(reflux) would hit. She still has good and bad days, but the good days are starting to out number the bad ones.
On the picture issue it took too many times to fig. out but I finally did it thanks to Naomi. I picked a picture and croped to a smaller image. After some advise from Naomi it worked.

February 4, 2008 at 4:21 pm #47978AnonymousInactiveRollercoaster ride here too. I have never had a reflux free baby so I always thought everything was just plain reflux. I’m not sure I would know what to do with myself if I had a reflux free baby. Have you tryed pepcid complete, mylanta, or gaviscon when you think she is having a flare? That can help sometimes too.
Kdenihan, The Dr. Browns bottles are probably not going to make any difference. I know everyone has their opinion and everyone thinks they know the answer. They usually have never dealt with a reflux baby though. Honestly for a reflux baby they need the right meds. The zantac is probably not working for her. Most babies need to be on a good dose of a ppi like prevacid, prilosec, or zegerid to find any relief. Check out Marci-kids.com. You will find a lot of info there to help you. We are always here for both of you ladies. I hope your babies find some relief soon.
February 5, 2008 at 7:25 am #48005AnonymousInactiveThanks for the reply, I have gotten more info in the past 24 hours from being on this website and Marci-kids then I have in 4 weeks from my doctor. I actually took her back to the ped last night and we are now going to a GI today, she had gotten worse as the day went on yesterday and now can only keep pedialyte down
As far as the bottles, I felt the same way but I wanted to ask people who knew what I was going through.Hopefully today will be the start down the right road. Thanks again -
