Karen- I feel ya! I just had to start my 18 month old on a full dose of prevacid again. Ugh! It never seems to go away. Whenever I think that it has, the symptoms reappear. It is very frustrating. Reflux pisses me off too!

I work in the birth to five disabilties area, and recently in the last year or so there has been alot of discussion among early intervention professioals about the link between reflux, colic and developmental delays. At several conferences I have been to there has been sessions on reflux, colic and developmental delays, this is all in the researchh stage and there is no conclusive proof that reflux causes developmental delays.

Chsando- TFS. From what you have heard, do the kids usually catch up if it is just reflux related?

sylvia was failure to thrive for two years—but it did not seem to effect her developement physically in any way. i kind of think she might be a little behind in her pre-school class—but i don’t know that for sure, they haven’t done any testing on them yet. she goes to kindergarten this fall, so we will see how she does. they should be doing pre-kindergarten tesing soon at the shools.

It is mostly research on syndromes-like sandifers and 2 others I can remember; but from what I’ve heard its how severe the children got the symptoms and how long they had the symptoms and if the symptoms affected their ability to learn, reasoning is if you are in pain that is what you will concentrate on. But there was no conclusive evidence if it did or didnt cause developmental delay. I will be going to another conference in June, I’ll bring back an update then.

Funny thing is I did not pay much attention until I had my daughter and she started spitting up and then got severe reflux, and she started having Developmental delays such as sititng up and she never did like tummy time-reflux related?
