My grandson was just diagnosed a few days ago with severe GERD. He could not tolerate soy or milk based formulas and is now on a hypoallergenic formula. He was prescribed Zantac to take twice a day. After he was diagnosed and formula was changed, seems to do better. He was vomiting a little, but not nearly as much as he was. For the last few nights, every evening after his last bottle, he gags and then vomits real thick mucus and his eyes roll funny. Seems like he is going to stop breathing. The mucus is very thick and he chokes on it. He also has mucus in his stools.

Has anyone experienced this? My daughter is very upset and feels lost at what do do. Please respond. Thanks.

mucous should subside after a good 2 to 3 weeks on the elemental formula. I would not be giving any other food at this time…

zantac: how much does he weigh? I can help figure out PROPER dose!

Yes, we experienced the same issue on elemental formula. Another poster said it could be related to the corn syrup in the formula. It never really got better for us. We tried it for 4 months. My child would work so hard and eventually throw up a pretty large amount of thick mucous. I am trying soy to see if that will help reduce the amount of mucous. If not I will go back to elemental I guess!
