Hi! My 10-week old has MFPI. I’ve been on the TED for almost two months now (he can’t handle any new food I’ve added in). His diapers dramatically improved after the 4th week on the diet. However, after his 8-week shots, there were huge amounts of mucous in his diapers and now two weeks after, he’s got constant diarrhea. I haven’t added any new food in since week 7. Is there a chance the shots caused the reaction? What should we do about future immunizations if so? *We didn’t give him the Rotarix vaccine because my daughter (who also has MFPI) had a terrible reaction to it. Any info you have would be great! Thanks!

I’m not sure about the Rotarix vaccine.. Is that the Rotovirus one that is given orally? If so, my son had a horrible time with that one too.
I will say that I noticed a big surge in reflux after each vaccine session. But I’m not sure it lasted as long as it is for your son.I’m not sure what to suggest other than maybe adding in some probiotics? I know there are some brands that are totally safe for little ones who are MFPI. Maybe someone else can help you there. probiotics were a huge help for us, and if his digestive system is all out of sorts, they can help him get back on track.July 27, 2010 at 7:56 pm #66799AnonymousInactiveMy boys do awful w/ vaccines as well. Their reflux increases & diapers get mucousy & icky for a good 2 wks. With my 2nd ds we started just doing 2 vaccines @ each visit & we’re still catching up (he’s 2yo). With my 3rd ds (he’s 6mths) we do 2 per visit & it’s been MUCH better. His reflux still flares but his diapers stay baselined/normal.

I also had the same experience with my son. He has MSPI, but ONLY developed mucus in his poo and diarrhea after his immunisations. It sent his bowels into a terrible state, and also made his reflux terrible to the point he developed sandifers symtoms. It was quite scary. In the end I asked my doctor for the manufacturers leaflets for each of the vaccines, then used this to find the ingredients:I found one of them uses a bovine (cow) carrier protien, and the other is cultured on soy.I am not against imms, but to me it explained why he had such a severe reaction ( a protein he reacts to being injected directly into his bloodstream). I also used an infant probiotic powder (just sprinkled it on my nipple before he fed) which I am sure helped him to recover, although it took a long time.I must say, I have not given him his 3rd immunisation, I am waiting until he is older (he is now 7 months).July 28, 2010 at 12:32 pm #66803hellbenntKeymasterfyi
