Hi all… Posting from Houston TX. Short story is I had my 2lb 5 oz preemie at 26 weeks. We came home after long NICU stay and Brady was 38 weeks… So a couple days home found out we had silent reflux and NICU wasn’t able to take him back so our newly met pediatrician diagnosed and 2 months home we are on compound Prevacid and Zantac.
June 16, 2013 at 10:28 pm #72330hellbenntKeymasterWelcome ! You’ve found a great place to research & educate yourself so you can be the best advocate for your baby!
The best place to start is groupie intro
Read Prevacid 101
And also the link about Zantac
Calculate proper dosing & how best to administer the meds
Give the 2 meds 4hrs separate from one another
Read looking for a ped GI
To find a recommended ped GI near you
The search button is your friend! Use keywords & change the drop-down menu to 6motjd & OLDER
So glad you found us
June 20, 2013 at 10:19 am #72401hellbenntKeymasterare you formula feeding or breastfeeding?
how are poops?
as you are figuring things out, I would say try some mylanta cherry supreme.
Mylanta Cherry Supreme is the one variety of mylanta that does not contain aluminum. you can’t find it anymore, but you can find store brand equivalents. Try: rite-aid, cvs brand, walmart, target, Bartell Drug (West coast), Dollar General, brand names: Geri-Care & Geri-Lanta Supreme, meijer, etc- just look for one that does not list aluminum in the ingredients.
you can give 1ml up to 5 times a day- it’s safe, even for newborns. if you see loose stools back off.
you need to space the ‘mylanta’ 4hrs from prevacid, but it CAN be given w/ zantac. we used it w/ zantac to help the zantac go down.
you can look online to find store brand equivalents.
here, I did a google search:
cvs brand: http://www.cvs.com/shop/product-detail/CVS-Antacid-Liquid-Supreme-Cherry?skuId=191659

June 20, 2013 at 11:19 am #72402AnonymousInactiveI’m so fed up with meds and extras… My husband wants me to just try nothing… He poops at least once a day… A little juice once helps
June 20, 2013 at 4:12 pm #72406hellbenntKeymasterwell, if your baby does have Sandifers, then you’ll SEE it go away w/ proper medication.
are you breasfeeding or formula feeding?
HOW are poops? if breastfeeding, are they yellow/mustardy ‘seedy’ breastfed baby poops?
if you’re formula feeding are they the way formula-fed babies’ poops should be?
June 20, 2013 at 4:38 pm #72408AnonymousInactiveSo I am doing the Prevacid today after all… Poops are greenish formula tint and regular
June 20, 2013 at 4:47 pm #72410hellbenntKeymasterok, well poops sound fine- then it might not be ‘diet’ it might just be ‘straight-up’ reflux, meaning immature LES (lower esophageal sphincter) – this is what my baby w/ sandifer’s had. I sound like a crazy drug-pusher, but in the end this is what did the trick for him not to be in pain and for the sandier’s syptoms to lessen & then go away. when they came back we knew it was time for med increase
June 20, 2013 at 7:41 pm #72412AnonymousInactiveWhat do you think?
June 20, 2013 at 7:52 pm #72413hellbenntKeymasterso cute! I do see the ‘grimacing’
Does he arch his back & his face turn beet red? Does he do a strange ‘tic’ kind of shake/dance? Does he twist his head all the way in one direction and stiffen out his opposite leg totally stiff?
Does he howl & shriek in pain?
If not, then what you’re doing might just be enough?
June 20, 2013 at 8:33 pm #72415AnonymousInactiveYes he does a horrible tic… Arches alot and use to aspirate when we bought him home… He was mainly on EBM in NiCU but I notice a huge change once we started with formula… I sent you wrong video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czf79W0NWtg
Shows the tic towards end
June 20, 2013 at 9:28 pm #72417hellbenntKeymasterit’s hard to tell. But, if you give proper dosiing & it stops, you’ll know….sorry I can’t tell you it’s sandifers for sure
June 26, 2013 at 1:49 am #72455AnonymousInactiveSo we do great all day but still have a grand acid dump at night… I weighed my LO and he s 14 lbs now.. So I know my dosage is low… So my question is would it be bad on his stomach if I gave him 5 ml of (3mg/ml) Prevacid for first bottle then another 5 ml for 2nd bottle? Then use zantac for the remainder bottles??
June 26, 2013 at 10:23 am #72456hellbenntKeymasterI can’t tell you what to do…read through & you’ll see that you won’t be the first mama to have a baby on ‘higher’ doses
me, I’d give the prevacid at night…also in the a.m. & the zantac for all the times in between, making sure to space the zantac 4hrs from the precvacid…
hang in there!
