February 9, 2010 at 4:05 pm #65782AnonymousInactiveHi everyone… so yes, we’re still dealing w/ reflux w/ Evan unfortunately. We were going to try weaning him off meds but don’t think that’s going to happen for a while…
Anyway, he’s on a very restricted diet (intolerant/allergic to 10 things). His stool is ‘normal’ (for him) most times… he’s no longer malabsorbing foods.
He’s on 30mg Prevacid a day… 15mg solutabs 2x/day. He gets his 1st dose in the morning when he wakes, & then the 2nd dose when he wakes from his nap (anytime b/w 3:30-5 pm). The timing doesn’t really work out to give the 2nd dose any later (with the empty stomach, etc).
Anyway, he’s been sleeping thru the night consistently since about 10-11 mths old (he’s 20mths old now). BUT lately (probably past 3-4 mths) he’s been waking up anytime b/w 3:30-5 am & staying awake for 1-2hrs. He doesn’t cry out or need myself or Brian to go in there… but he’s rolling around awake in his crib (sometimes making some moaning, but not usually).
I didn’t really think much about it but it just occured to me that he could be in reflux/acid/indigestion pain… just enough to keep him awake, but not enough to cry out in pain – poor guy! His post-nap Prevacid dose is probably ‘run out’ by then… so is it possible for him to feel the burn/pain then – eventhough he wouldn’t have eaten/drank anything since bedtime (7:30/8 pm). I will say he’s up more often (I think) when we’ve had something for dinner that he LOVES & eats more of (unfortunately, usually somewhat spicy…ie: chili, tacos, sausage jambalaya, etc).
What do you think?! Sound like what’s going on? Any other ideas? Any suggestions on what to do? His marci-kids Prevacid solutabs range is 28-40 so he’s in the range w/ his 30mg. I feel so bad that I JUST figured out this might be the issue.
February 9, 2010 at 9:33 pm #65783hellbenntKeymasterhow about pepcid complete?
the chewable berry kind I think it is?
dissolve 1/2 of one in some water and try that at night?February 9, 2010 at 10:06 pm #65784AnonymousInactiveLaura- I think we’ll try this. I actually have a bottle already… I thought (a long time ago) that we could/would use them when we weaned from Prevacid. I actually used them occasionally while pregnant w/ Tate for myself. The ingredients are “Evan-safe” so I’ll give it before bed.
Can I just have him chew it up himself? Or do I need to dissolve in water…
Also, do I need to give 4hrs apart from Prevacid (like Zantac/Axid)? or does it not matter (or maybe the 1hr apart from Prevacid like Mylanta?!)
I guess I COULD give Axid again too if I needed to.
February 10, 2010 at 3:25 am #65785AnonymousInactiveErin if he is okay with chewing it that is what I would do. They saved me this pregnancy with Caroline. I took one every noght before bed and it worked great until the last 2wks when things got really bad!

you do need to space it from the PPI…
you could also try tums, but my guess is that it’s not strong enough for the time period you’re talking about…jonah STILL loves tums; he thinks it’s candy -
