Ian is tolerating (knock big wood) milk in baked form for a week now! I guess you call it hidden dairy. I never thought it would happen. I’m so excited that I’m able to give the little guy a cookie or muffins and not have to obsess over it! It comes with good timing too because they’ve been feeding him in a high chair at daycare while the other kids eat at a table. Makes me so sad, but every time they put him at the table, he tries to eat someone’s cheese or some other dairy product. We try butter next, then yogurt and I’m equally terrified. Any suggestions? I’ve heard people say yobaby is harsh on tummys? I guess start really slow-just a tablespoon probably?
Anyone have their kids tolerate hidden but not fresh dairy? Either way, no complaints from me. I’m going to savor the progress!

November 28, 2006 at 6:01 pm #19212AnonymousInactiveI am happy to hear this! We had a problem with yobaby but he does well on the yoplait for kids! I hope he continues to do well!
November 28, 2006 at 8:27 pm #19222AnonymousInactivecongrats!! that is wonderful!!! I think that is the hardest thing for little MSPIers…not being able to enjoy cakes, muffins, etc like other kids do. Keep us updated on how the butter and stuff goes. 🙂
November 28, 2006 at 8:50 pm #19225AnonymousInactiveGreat news! I hope it continues to improve and he will soon be able to eat what all his little buddies at daycare are eating.

November 29, 2006 at 1:34 pm #19262AnonymousInactiveThanks everyone-I’m so thrilled and am still crossing my fingers all goes well. I just bought a tub of unsalted butter and will keep you all posted.
December 3, 2006 at 8:32 am #19431AnonymousInactiveOk, so three days of butter went totally fine! Now, day one of yobaby (just one tablespoon) and so far, so good. This is WILD! I’m going to go super slow with the yogurt for the next week. I can’t believe even just 3 months ago, he had a tiny bit of casein in soy cheese and he moaned for hours. Or that even just months ago, he had blood in his stool. I can’t believe the progress.
And, just so I don’t jinx us-I will be totally happy if we even have to stop here for awhile. It just gives me hope and I want to pass it along to all of you that are going through mspi right now-I remember how down it used to get us.
Only thing we’re dealing with now is transitioning to one nap. That’s hard!! But will post for ideas in sleeping forum…
Thanks again everyone for the warm wishes and support!!

December 6, 2006 at 10:22 am #19692AnonymousInactiveOk, day 4 of yogurt trial. I need some support to not chicken out just yet…
Seemingly, butter and baked goods with dairy are fine (have had them all at different times of days-no issues). Then moving on, first day of 1 tablespoon yogurt-great, second day-2 tablespoons-great, 3rd day-2 tablespoons -really fussy and needy BUT for only one hour afterwards in am, however, lunch appetite-not there, 4th day(today)-two and 1/2 tablespoons-fussy/clingy for one hour only again. I’ll have to check with daycare after lunch to see if he doesn’t eat again. I wonder if he just feels more comfortable to complain in front of me, whereas with daycare, he knows he won’t get special attention…just a thought?
So-fussy/clingy could just be a coincidence, teething, knows he’s going to daycare, or a little gas adjustment to fresh dairy??? Poops have been normal except one day it was a little looser-not much and no mucus or blood. Sleeping fine, and good humored rest of day. Eating dinner great. Seems to be refluxing a little more but am not positive.
So, keep trucking on? Overreacting a little early right? I’m SOOO overly sensitive based on his history. It’s normal to have an adjustment period right? As long as no rash, poo problems, etc-probably fine…?
I’m still positive in attitute though!! I’m just happy my baby can eat a cookie!
December 7, 2006 at 1:02 pm #19773AnonymousInactiveI know I remember reading somewhere that when they were doing food trials with their child they were told to be patient with fussiness (I guess these little ones need time for the body to adjust to dairy) and to just look for sleep at night, napping as usual (although even that can be varied depending on teething, etc) rashes, and poops. I would say keep on trying….I personally think that babies are super smart and can pick up on any type of anxiety that you might have from this trial…I know that Brianna has been able to pick up when I am nervous about something I am doing with her. 🙂 f you see any of the signs above then maybe rethink it. Good luck and keep us updated…and keep remembering, your baby can eat cookies!!!!
December 7, 2006 at 1:39 pm #19775AnonymousInactiveI agree with you-thanks! He ate, slept fine yesterday and this morning had 2/3 of yo baby and happy as a clam. So I’m trucking on. Unless sleep or poop or a rash appears I’m going to hang in there for 2 weeks.
Yes!! He can eat a cookie! Which he prefers above all anyways.
