I have 11 week old baby girl, around 6 week of age she was diagnosed with reflux (starting from no spitting up at all, then spit up and then coughing and gagging).
I know all baby spit up but the gagging that made me go to the doctor.
The doctor doesn’t want to put her on medication so she change her formula with soy (and I also breastfeeding). She was okay on soy.
The gagging and the coughing still there (especially when or after she cried).
We do the feeding on upright position, burp her every couple ounce, keep her upright for 30 minutes (without jostle/too much moving around).
She was doing well on her weight on her 2 month check up so the doctor doesn’t want to give her any med or upper GI study.
And then 10 days ago, she threw up the whole bottle (after 2 ounce), I’m pretty sure its the whole bottle and this is the first time she threw up.
And yesterday was the second time, when we burp her for the 2 ounce.
I notice in the morning she was coughing and today the gagging a bit forceful.
She cried today and starting coughing then gagging and then spit up.
Oh yeah, she barely spit up, sometimes only like drooling and sometimes go a week without spit up.
I called the doctor today, and the doctor asked me to watch her cough only, if got worse I should make appointment.
Her cough very light though, not mucusy.
She gains really well, for 10 days she gains about 1 lbs 10 ounce.
She barely cry, sleeps well and not fussy at all.
The spit up or the threw up, she act like nothing happened.
What is happening to my daughter?
We don’t have any allergy or asthma in our family, should I be concerned?
Should we ask the upper GI study?
Her gagging got worse though…
Help, first time mom…
ANd sometimes, I heard water on her throat, what is this?
And since the threw up episode, she’s been gagging a lot and farting a lot too.ChloeMommy 2008-07-07 23:41:58 July 8, 2008 at 1:45 pm #53547AnonymousInactiveNo one reply me yet, I really need some advice or anything…
We really having a bad day…July 8, 2008 at 1:56 pm #53548hellbenntKeymasterit’s so hard! you say that she’s not fussy or crying and now you say you’re having a bad day…can you explain some more?
does she have any rashes or excema?with all the coughing and gagging, maybe you want to ask for a Swallow Study (this is not an Upper GI). This looks at how she drinks and looks to see if she’s aspirating liquid into her lungs…I’m not sure if it’s helpful, though, if she’s not coughing/gagging while drinking? I hope someone else can help with this.the reflux medication doesn’t address spitting up or vomiting; it helps reduce the acid so that it doesn’t hurt as it comes up/comes down…if the soy is helping, and if you’re also breastfeeding, then you’ll want to eliminate all milk proteins from your diet- this means even milk as an ingredient in something (whey, casin, rennet, etc)…This should help, too: Mspi/allergy info(‘main page’): https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2697&PN=1&TPN=1July 8, 2008 at 1:57 pm #53549AnonymousInactivewe having a bad day with the gagging and coughing.
