I’m getting so frustrated!
We knew E had silent reflux from almost the beginning and therefore started much earlier with meds than we did with Owen. We’ve been to the GI twice and see him again next week Wed. Currently, she’s taking a total of only 8mg of Prevacid (suspended) a day–broken into two doses. She’s also on Bethanechol. We’re not seeing a whole lot of difference. Yes, she’s having some better days, but she doesn’t have that “I’m comfortable” demeanor. I feel like we’re walking on eggshells! Her feedings are up and down. There are some days (or times) where she’ll eat 5 oz. at a time, and then other times where she has half an ounce. She is pretty gassy, but even when she gets it out (with or without pooping) it doesn’t seem to offer any lasting relief. Poops range from wet to almost dry-like. She has had several mucousy stools, but they’ve not been often.Despite this, her weight gain has been good and she weighs about 10.5 lbs (according to my bathroom scale). Please remind me this can get better. Offer any and all suggestions (we’re already babywearing, sleeping on an elevated mattress or swing, and using Nutramigen).Thanks.Do we need to go to Neocate?January 18, 2008 at 12:49 am #47444AnonymousInactiveSorry to hear you are on the second time around. I know you already know this but really I would think the first step is to try and get an increase in her prevacid…easier said than done with some Drs of course! I probably wouldn’t go to neocate until then, but of course if the Dr would agree to the neocate but not the prevacid I would probably give it a go. It does get better and your gorgous Owen is proof of that…but its of course sometimes it doesn’t realy help to know it gets better; sometimes you just need to cry along with them. My best wished to you and Elizabeth.

I just found this web site and so far it’s great, talking to other people who are going through the same thing you are helps. My little girl is 5 months old, she was hospitalized at 6 weeks old, she has severe gerd and severe milk allergy. She is presently on prevacid and neocate. It’s definately so far been a long and rough road for her and us. She too has bowel problems, just what we need. Somedays she’ll drink 3 ounces, but normaly it’s only 2 ounces and it takes about an hour to get that much into her. She doesn’t sleep much at all. She weighs just over 13 ILBS. Her ped was happy that she finally gained some weight, but I didn’t stop there, I requested she see a GI Dr. I am hoping he can help us. She too is very gassy, even when she burps. It’s hard to know if it’s the reflux or is she gassy. Anyway I hope things get better for you and Elizabeth. I cry alot with my Ainslie too, you get so frustrated, that’s about all you can do. I hope I have made you feel a bit better. Take care and best of luck.
