for time missed with my GERDling.
The strange thing is…I have 3 weeks vacation time left. I’m just not allowed to use it. Screwed up huh? You only get 6 sick days per year. And yes, you CAN file FMLA intermittent leave, but my company had me by the throat there too. They give you this glorious 13 week maternity leave and put it ALL under your FMLA so it all gets eaten up…so later in the year, when you have issues with your sick children, they can fire you. After 10 years with the company.Oh and my company (name withheld) was rated in the top 10 most family friendly places to work and is advertised for it’s wonderful flexibility! It is one of the largest financial institutions globally.Oh well. They can find a billion people to fill my position, but Kaden and Landen only get one mommy. We can kiss our house goodbye…but nonetheless, I am a SAHM now.September 13, 2007 at 2:50 pm #42586AnonymousInactiveI am sorry. That really does seem unfair. Are you eligible for unemployment? Hopefully, they will at least pay you out for the unused vacation days.
Maybe this will be one of the things that seem unfathomable now but when you look back a year or so later, you may think it was the best thing that ever happened to you!So sorry again and Big HUGS!September 13, 2007 at 3:23 pm #42593AnonymousInactiveGosh, I’m really sorry. That’s so unfair. I hope things work out for you and you don’t lose your house. Being a SAHM is wonderful. I hope you love it! I’m sure your boys will!
September 13, 2007 at 3:36 pm #42594AnonymousInactiveJill I am so sorry. That really sucks. Is there a way you can sue them for discrimination? That doesn’t seem like just cause to be fired b/c of a sick child? I am just asking… trying to help get you a little extra income. I worked FT until Cooper was born and I didn’t think I could be a SAHM, but I love it and I couldn’t imagine not being with him all the time. I hope this is a blessing in disquise for you.
September 13, 2007 at 4:17 pm #42598AnonymousInactiveI am so sorry for you! That is just awful!!!! I hope it is a blessing in disguise, or greener pastures are around the corner. I will say a prayer for you and family….
September 13, 2007 at 4:58 pm #42603AnonymousInactiveThat is horrible. It must make you furious. I do believe that God doesn’t shut a door without opening a window. Sometimes I think the windows are just barely cracked open, but they are open!!
Being a SAHM may help you save on gas money to/from work, lunch money if you ate out, work clothes, etc.I hope you enjoy being at home and we look forward to seeing you on the board during the day!You are very right that your kids will ALWAYS remember mom being home and playing with them. I really hope it works out for you.September 13, 2007 at 6:04 pm #42609AnonymousInactiveWow, I’m so sorry to hear this Jill! That seems so unfair. I hope that things work out for the best for you and your family.
September 13, 2007 at 7:02 pm #42614AnonymousInactiveI would at least contact a lawyer and see if you could get a severence package, seems a little harsh that they could just fire you for such a simple thing. Although, a lawyer might cost you the severence pay to fight your case so might not be worth it, but I would contact the company and say that you are going to contact a lawyer and see if they will budge on a severence package, maybe at least one months pay if they just fired you on the spot. My mom was fired “because she made too much money” and they gave her 2 mo salary so she wouldn’t persue legal action and she had a new job within 2 weeks so she came out on top.
I am lucky that my company said they could post my job after 30 days that I was gone, but my supervisor said it was up to her to post it and she wouldn’t and didn’t.I think you are right though, you may be in a better place with your kids if you can buckle down and afford to live! It’s tough, especially after having a refluxer and more med and forumla bills with the second, the money is a little tighter!keep you head up!September 13, 2007 at 8:51 pm #42623AnonymousInactiveOh wow! I’m so sorry to hear that! It does seem incredibly unfair and I hope you are able to move onto bigger and better things. Good luck to you!
September 13, 2007 at 9:31 pm #42632AnonymousInactiveWow, sounds like the company I used to work for. I am so sorry. Like the other ladies have said, I hope it all works out for the best.
September 14, 2007 at 6:39 am #42640AnonymousInactiveGee, I’d be hoping mad. So sorry this happened to you.
September 14, 2007 at 1:12 pm #42651AnonymousInactiveErica, I’d love to sue them, but FL is an “at will” state. It protects it’s employers. In FL, you can get fired for the color of your toenail polish if your employer doesn’t like it and there isn’t a thing you can do about it. It’s terrible.
I can hope to get my vacation pay. I am going to check into that! If I wasn’t so tired, I’d contact the media! LOLSeptember 14, 2007 at 1:16 pm #42652AnonymousInactiveYou know, that isn’t a bad idea – contacting the media. They would do all the work. You could put a spin on it – a 3 year old with reflux and a baby with MSPI with reflux. What is MSPI? Is it really THAT difficult? What is Neocate? Then they could get into your job and how you were quietly let go. Is is fair to even hire mothers if they are going to let them go when their children’s HEALTH comes first? When contacting your old employer, you could mention the potential interview. They aren’t going to want the publicity – it could end in a little benefit package or severance for you.
I worked for 2 different law firms before children and after our 2 older ones were in school. I would pursue it a bit. You deserve better than to be fired for being a caring mother!!September 14, 2007 at 1:40 pm #42658AnonymousInactiveI found the following information on a website for Florida. It is geared toward employers, but I believe you can contact the claims and benefits information at the bottom and maybe get somewhere regarding unemployment. If your employer was doing their job, the information regarding your salary/hours/etc will already be in this system.
