I don't know what else to do!

So C started Zantac last Wednesday, well today he is gurgling, hiccups, drooling, has a rhasphy/squeaky voice (i noticed this change), and screaming fits all day on and off. I know he was constipated so I’ve been giving him sugar water per the doc and he had two firm bowel movments so far and I thought maybe he is just straining to poop still?? I’m just worried about him, I think I’m gonna call the ped tomorrow if he is still acting and sounding like this… he only wants to be in his swing or with me, noone else can comfort him. Any advice or help? Is the Zantac even working???

Carter’s Mom – Please let me know whatever information you learn. My details are almost exactly the same. My baby, Jackson, is six weeks old and was prescribed Zantac last Wednesday as well and the past 24 hours have been awful. I cannot stand to see him in so much discomfort and I can’t figure out whether it’s the meds making things worse or whether the condition is just getting worse. I am wondering whether to even give him the prescribed dose of Zantac this morning or to leave it to see if he gets better. I want my happy baby back! Any info/advice you hear or anyone else has will be most appreciated. I am a new mum and really upset about this… Thanks.

hi and welcome!
it takes 2 weeks for Zantac to fully working, so be patient!
And Soy tends to make the stool firmer too, any reason why he on soy?

it might not be 2 weeks to see the results of the zantac, it could be just a few days, HOWEVER you need to check the zantac dose…how much does baby weigh?

also: soy is constipating…have you tried alimentum or nutrimigen? is one if these what baby was on before the soy? I’m not sure how I feel about sugar water- do you have an old-fashioned ped?

Ask for a PPI, like Prevaciad or Prilosec.

H2 blockers like Zantac did nothign for Jedd when he was at his worse.

OMG I think it’s working the past two days have been wonderful and today he pooped 3 times finally!!!!!!!!!! He is such a happy smiley, cooing lil bub!!!
