Hi again everyone,
Well, unfortunately on Sunday night after
having diareahh for a couple days, we took Hunter to the ER again
because he was dehydrated and very lathargic. They hooked him up to an
IV and after doing blood work we found he was more dehydrated than we
thought so they admitted us. He ended up definitely having a stomach
virus. He started to get more hydrated and by Monday he was very
uncomfortable and was screaching for the most of the day. They did
X-rays and found everything looked ok he was just very gassy and his
abdomen was very hard and big. They ended up putting a tube in his
stomach to let the gas out. He didn’t sleep really well last night
but seemed a little better this morning (Tues.) Around noon he started
screaching again so they put a pump on the tube to help pump it out
faster. They did more X-rays and a sonogram and those looked ok too.
That’s where we are right now, still at the hospital awaiting more
tests tomorrow, and I will update you soon.Has anyone ever heard of this happening with a stomach virus and reflux and do you have any suggestions of where to go from here. His reflux, Sandifer’s, and reswallowing has been insane since this has began. They are doing a CT scan tomorrow morning.
Please keep Hunter in your
thoughts!!February 1, 2006 at 2:49 am #422AnonymousInactiveDawn, I am SO sorry to hear about what you are going through! Poor Hunter. I hope that he is well enough to go home soon, and will be thinking and praying for you both.

Hope Hunter feels better soon — you are going through such a rough period! I have no answers for you though… maybe, now that you are at the hospital you could suggest some additional tests like an endo? I cannot remember now what Hunter is eating but maybe he is reacting to some food?
My thoughts are with you!

find out what is going on? I’m so sorry to hear he is sick and you are
having such a rough time. Hugs to you both.February 1, 2006 at 9:54 am #443AnonymousInactiveStomach viruses are horrible for refluxers. Isaac had one about a month ago and it was so bad. His stomach was so full of gas that everything just kept refluxing and he refused to eat hardly at all. I think he ate about 6-7 oz a day for a few days. He was so grouchy too!
I wish that poor Hunter didn’t have to go through this! I hope he feels better soon!

He is still screaming and squirming like he is in severe pain and has very little time during the day where he looks at peace. The surgen said that its not typical for refluxers to be THAT irritable all the time. I am just at a loss and I am devastated. My heart just hurts so much right now. I wish we could find some answers to give him some relief.
I myself am now having the dang Rotavirus symptoms….it SUCKS! I came home tonight to get some sleep. Hopefully tomorrow we will get some answers 🙁
February 2, 2006 at 11:31 am #524AnonymousInactiveHi Dawn. I am so sorry for Hunter. When Emma was 5.5 months she was admitted to the hospital with the stomach virus as well. Vomitting, diahrrea, refusal to eat and severe dehydration. They hooked her up to a IV also. They didn’t put a tube down for gas but I gave her mylanta. The nurse didn’t really like the idea but I didn’t care. I live by this stuff. I give it to her every half hour till she is comfortable. She just passes gas like crazy when I do this. We ended up leaving to early and was admitted a second time and I refused to leave until she was eating as much as she was before she was sick. They didn’t do a upper GI but some other tests and never found anything. They just kept saying that the stomach virus plays hell on a refluxer and finally Emma came out of it. I hope he gets to feeling better. I know how draining it is, we ended up being in there for about 5-6 days. Hang in there and hopefully it will pass!! HUGS
