For the past few days I’ve noticed that Hailey’s diapers have not seemed to be as wet as they used to. Even when she wakes up in the morning, they just don’t feel very heavy after 12 hours of not changing (I don’t change her diapers when she gets up in the night). I just switched recently to the new pampers baby-dry, so I’m not sure if that’s it, but really how could it be? Right? If she was wetting the diaper, shouldn’t it feel heavy? How heavy do they have to be? She’s otherwise been content, definitely doesn’t look dehydrated, seems fine, and has been doing about 18-20 ounces per day- typical for her. About 2 weeks ago she was switched to 24 kcal/oz formula made by adding extra formula to the bottle. Could this be the problem? For the past 2 days I went back to normal formula, but I haven’t noticed a difference. I’m really quite scared that there could be something very wrong! Especially because of the strange results we got back from her urine tests a while back. I called our ped but he’s not there and I’ve already left a message this week, but haven’t gotten in touch with him.

(if you don’t mind me asking) Aidan just recently started doing this (I know he’s a bit younger than Hailey)…His diapers are never as wet as I think they should be..BUT as long as he’s going and not dehydrated..crying tears..etc..I try not to worry too much
February 16, 2006 at 5:16 pm #1713AnonymousInactiveI have noticed the exact same thing with Noah lately. I too was a little worried about this. We concentrate his milk to 30 cal per oz using formula. I was worried about the extra minerals etc without the extra water being harder on his kidneys. I think at 24 cal/oz, you should be fine though. When we went to the Ped the other day, the doc told us that as long as he is peeing atleast 1 time in 6 hours, then he’s fine. Anything less could be dehyration.
With certain diapers it’s hard to tell how much they really go. I’ve been switching back and forth from Pampers baby-dry to Huggies and I noticed that its harder to tell how much Noah has pee’d when I use the Pampers. If you’re really unsure about how much she’s going, try putting on a cloth diaper one night. There’s no mistaking how much they really are going with a cloth diaper.

Aidansmom- regarding hailey’s urine test (of course I don’t mind you asking), hailey had a metabolic workup done just over a month ago and a few things came back flagged- in her blood, her lactic acid was very high, ped said sometimes goes with various disorders but none of them fit Hailey’s profile. also various amino acids came back off, but ped said in no discernable pattern, so probably just normal for her. in her urine, her oxalic acid came back very high at levels usually indicative of kidney failure, but ped said that the other values related to kidney function were fine, so not to worry. We retested over a month ago, but still don’t have the results back…got to love the Canadian health care system.
