My DD (18 mos) is having an endoscopy on Friday and as is typical, we were told nothing to eat or drink after midnight. I know that the American Society of Anesthesiology says breastmilk can be consumed anywhere from 2-4 hours before surgery (depending on the practice guideline that you look at).
How hard do I want to argue with the anesthesiologist when he calls me the night before surgery and says nothing to eat or drink 6+ hours before surgery? When she had tubes placed in her ears at 11 mos, I argued and got the anesthesiologist down to the last nursing session 4 hours before surgery. My daughter nurses all night long (6+ wakings per night) so whatever the restriction it is going to be tough.
Thoughts from those whose children have had the procedure?
