my 6 month old was diagnosed with esophagitis after his endoscopy/colonoscopy 2 weeks ago. he’s been on prevacid (7.5 twice a day) for 9 weeks! shouldn’t it be healed by now? the prevacid website says it takes 4-8 weeks to heal erosive esophagitis caused by reflux. he is also on neocate for MSPI and his intestines looked good- had bloody stools/allergic colitis about 5 weeks ago so at least the formula is working for him, we just need the prevacid to work. our GI won’t increase his meds. any suggestions or insight as to how long our little guy is going to be in pain from the esophagitis? he has a feeding aversion that comes and goes and only takes 20-25 ounces a day and that includes a night feeding still. usually only takes 2-3 ounces at a time, feeding is a nightmare as all of you probably know!
March 13, 2009 at 7:58 am #61599hellbenntKeymasterthe latest ‘rave’ around here is probiotics…that may help?
also: the ‘other’ topic of much interest is thrush…but I would think if he had esopogeal thrush then some irritation would have shown up in the scope? something to ask the dr?ok back to probioitcs:March 16, 2009 at 11:15 pm #61680AnonymousInactivei’ll ask the pediatrician about both of those things. i am taking him in tomorrow to get checked out. he’s had a cold for a week and is not eating much at all- and still not taking solids. we’ve been adding rice to bottles but he did well the first few days and now he doesn’t want anything to do with it. he also has a rash on his back again. i don’t think many babies are allergic to rice so i don’t think that’s causing discomfort. i will talk to her about the prevacid increase, as well, even though the nurse informed me today that “15mg is pretty high” even though i see lots of you on here have higher dosages for your little ones! ahhhh. when will all this be over? i just want my little boy to eat like a normal baby! SOON!
March 17, 2009 at 7:50 am #61684hellbenntKeymasterit MIGHT be the rice! what brand? is baby sensitive to milk or soy? gerber has these (or one i forget) in it…
try oatmeal or barley & try beechnut or another brand w/ no milk or soy…March 17, 2009 at 11:14 am #61690AnonymousInactiveMy DS was diagnosed with esophagitis and colitis at 3 weeks old. We just now finally have noticed a dramatic difference in him and he is now 9 weeks old. He has been on prevacid for over 7 weeks and also used carafate for 4 of those weeks. This past week when all the changes started for the better I had also added 1/4 tab of pepcid EZ chews for midday coverage between his am and pm doses of prevacid(our GI wouldn’t increase prevacid either). Not sure if that had anything to do with it, but he no longer cries for 8-10hrs a day and is sleeping much better.
As for the rice, beechnut is soy and milk free. Gerber still has soy in it.Have you added any new solids lately? -
