Catelin is 12 weeks old and has been constipated since being on Neocate(2 weeks). Ive tried syrup, juice, suppositories and now m.o.m. Nothing really seems to be working. How much Mirilax is safe and how does it get administered?
Thank you!July 23, 2008 at 3:08 pm #54338AnonymousInactivei don’t know anything about mirilax (sorry) but I have noticed when McKenzie is having hard time going poo I have found that a little plain water can help her go. Also, i notice when i use the mylanta cherry supreme she is able to poop very easily. I hope things get better for you soon!

Good luck. It did wonders for Landen. I am reading your other posts now. I am sorry she’s been so constipated on Neocate. PPI’s can constipate too, so it might be the formula and the PPI causing problems. once she is pooping regularly maybe the reflux symptoms will let up and sleeping will be better. The amount you use really depends on your baby. My first one took a ton of it (2 adult doses a day!) my baby now is 1/4 t every bottle, so 4 times a day. All 3 GI’s I have seen say to start with 1 teas in every bottle (which is 4 times a day for us). If your baby is breastfed, then I would do 1 1/2 t 2xs a day. It may initially make your babe a little runny, but then you adjust from there. Being runny for a short time may also be good to get her cleaned out. Remember Miralax is super safe. I’m so glad its over the counter now…it didn’t used to be and for my first 2 babies I was constantly filling prescriptions.

Carson has the same trouble. We keep PediaLax liquid suppositories on hand for the really bad days. Way better than the regular ones. These are a life saver! At that age he got 1/4 tsp of mylanta supreme three times a day. That worked up until 4 months then we had to add 1/4 tsp Miralax in his bottle three times a day.Hope this helps!August 16, 2008 at 10:27 am #55412AnonymousInactiveOur DD has been on it since about that time. I think we started at 3/4 a teaspoon and are now at 1 teaspoon per day in a juice mix (2 oz. apple or pear + 2 oz. water). The juice works in a lot of the same way and while I’m not a huge fan of sugar at this age, it helps me give her less medicine.
The biggest concern with Miralax is that too much will make her go too much, so you can start with a doasge and kind of work your way up. If she hasn’t gone in a while, it may be a pretty full diaper the first time. -
