We are trialing Teagan on Goodstart, she has been on Nutramigen for 6 weeks. She is crankier, but that’s about it. It has been almost a week. Could it be related if she has no other symptoms? She likes it MUCH better!
Thanks!SarahJuly 16, 2008 at 10:29 am #54041AnonymousInactiveMay I ask why you are switching to Goodstart so soon? Are you doubting whether she truly has MSPI? Most babies do not outgrow their intolerances until 12 months (give or take). I would definitely agree that Goodstart tastes and smells MUCH better though!
With Sarah’s MSPI, fussiness was really the only indicator. She never had bloody stools or eczema or any other obvious reaction to the milk proteins. Was Teagan fussy at all on the nutramigen or did this just start with Goodstart?Maybe give the Goodstart a little longer and if the fussiness continues, gets worse, or doesn’t seem to be improving then I’d switch back.GOOD LUCK!July 16, 2008 at 12:52 pm #54052AnonymousInactiveI would think that the fussiness could be related. Coopers big symptom other than funny poops was fussiness. I dealt with funny poop but kept him on Nutramigen until 11 months or so and then we went to Gentlease.
July 16, 2008 at 1:17 pm #54053AnonymousInactiveShe was fine on the Nutramigen, happy as a clam, just hated it and only would drink about 10oz a day. She was originally on it for DGE not for MSPI. So we switched her to goodstart so she would drink more (she has doubled her intake) but now she is REALLY fussy!!
We are at a loss as to what to do. She seems to have issues with the milk based goodstart, but won’t drink the NUtramigen….aargh!July 16, 2008 at 2:44 pm #54056AnonymousInactiveDo you think it was a taste aversion thing with the Nutramigen?
I think if it were me and she doesn’t settle down soon and the goodstart I might revisit the Nutramigen with a flavoring (try http://www.frontiercoop.com/dspCatPct.php?ct=ssbfbf) and see if she will take if it tastes better.Good luck!!! It’s tough pinning down the right formula!July 16, 2008 at 4:03 pm #54060AnonymousInactiveThe ped said it is her reflux acting up, it apparently gets worse at 3 months? We need to add rice cereal to her bottles again but not enough to give her issues with the DGE. Also, it can’t be an issue with the formula because she has no bloody poop or rash. So I guess we’ll keep going and see what happens!!!
Thanks!July 16, 2008 at 4:07 pm #54061AnonymousInactiveIs the ped willing to increase her prevacid dose if he knows it is reflux acting up? 4-7 months is *generally* the worst time for reflux! (Although EVERY DAY feels like the worst when you’re in the middle of it! )
My daughter NEVER had bloody poop or rashes either but still required alimentum (same as nutramigen).I like Jill’s idea of flavoring the nutramigen if you go that route. Good luck!July 16, 2008 at 4:16 pm #54062AnonymousInactiveIf he says her reflux is acting up, then DEF use it to her (and your) advantage for a med increase!!!!
I hope you don’t have disastrous results with adding rice cereal back in. I just know that grains are so hard for them to digest even without delayed gastric emptying! Good luck sweetie. Let us know how she is doing!July 16, 2008 at 6:14 pm #54066AnonymousInactiveThanks for the advice. We have hit a wall when it comes to upping meds. The ped won’t go over 15mg/day and the STUPID gastroenterologist doesn’t give babies under 1 ANY meds!!!! We’ll start out slow on the rice cereal and see how she does..thanks again!!
SarahPS- I have a TON on Nutramigen left over….know where I can sell it? I need to unload it to pay for the new formula!July 16, 2008 at 8:00 pm #54071hellbenntKeymasterthis is a great post to read; it might help w/ the milk issue:
July 16, 2008 at 8:54 pm #54075AnonymousInactiveI would try ebay to sell the formula…that is where i buy all my neocate. 🙂 b’s mom2008-07-16 20:54:41
July 16, 2008 at 9:00 pm #54076AnonymousInactivei dont mean to get you worried.. but i really think the formula is upsetting her.. that was exactly how my son acted when switched. PLUS she is only 3 months old.. and that is very young to start tolerating dairy again. usually around 10 months is the switch. I wouldnt sell the nutramigen just yet.. we ended up trying to switch and going back about 5 times before it was sucessfull.
