zegerid is ok! It’s great! I would email dr philips [email protected]
about the pharmacy mixing up the zegerid, though! zegerid, as far as I know, comes in packets that you mix YOURSELF- the pharmacist doesn’t do it? dr philips helped to develop zegerid and can tell you what you need to know!hellbennt2008-11-23 14:32:07
November 23, 2008 at 7:52 pm #58929AnonymousInactiveThank you so much. I e-mailed the doctor and got this response:
We can send you a poduct called BufferBabies that will allow you to convert Prevacid capsules to a liquid formulation. contact [email protected]
Since the pharmacist says we can only get Zegerid in liquid form, how should I proceed
November 23, 2008 at 8:19 pm #58931hellbenntKeymasterum, now you have to get your doctor to prescribe prevacid, which is great! see, zegerid is made with prilosec…you actually can use either prilosec or prevacid w/ bufferbabies (see above info & links), but since it seems that SO MANY babies (mine included!) wind up switching from prilosec to prevacid, you might as well go ahead and try for the prevacid, if you can. otherwise, you can use prilosec capsules…
anyway, what I would do is FAX your doctor! TELL him/her that you got a bit confused as to the fact that the pharmacy was making the zegerid for you because 1) you have a friend whose baby takes zegerid and it comes as something they mix themselves at home or, if this is too much of a white lie for you,2) you went to the zegerid site: http://www.zegerid.com/ and SAW that it comes as a powder and you are concerned about it losing it’s potency if the pharmacist is making a big batch for you instead of each dose seperatelySO then write that you would just like to have PREVACID at __mgs/kilo in capsule form. THANKS. give name & phone number/fax number of pharmacist.sample fax: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=10633&PID=90325#90325

FAX FAX FAX the drdont wait for a call…
start off w/ a THANK YOU
keep it short & sweet
stick to the facts (no feelings and no rambling emotions)
state current meds, doses, symptoms
make request- flat out- short & sweet
THANK AGAIN
follow up by calling office to say fax was sent
call again later to discuss requests in fax, ie: have you called in the increased prescription yet? THANK YOU
November 24, 2008 at 9:46 am #58939AnonymousInactiveThanks so much! So the doctor responded with this:
In canada you can get Prevacid Capsules, that is what you need.
So since my baby is 3 months old would I break open the capsules to get to the powder and then mix bufferbabies solution into that?
November 24, 2008 at 9:59 am #58940AnonymousInactiveFYI…My baby just went on Prevacid and the doc wrote for the 15mg solutab. I cut the tab in half, dissolve it in a teaspoon with water (takes like 10 seconds), then suck it up into a syringe and give it to her. I then suck a little more water into the syringe to make sure I get it all. The only disadvantage, which I learned here on this AWESOME forum, is she has to have an empty stomach and has to wait 30 mins to eat. But I have been timing it right and its not that big of a deal.
I am going to look at bufferbabies info today before I head to her 6 month appt at the pediatrician.
November 24, 2008 at 11:14 am #58942AnonymousInactiveThanks ladies, and sorry I keep on asking questions. The people I am dealing with have never heard of any of this so it gets to be really difficult. The doctor we saw (who seemed to know nothing) said we had to stop the Zantac when we started the Zegerid. Is this true? I read somewhere on this site that PPIs tend to take a couple of weeks to work.
November 24, 2008 at 7:32 pm #58951hellbenntKeymasteryou’re not asking too many questions! just read all the links I/we give you, heh heh…no, really, ask away…

ok first things first:1) you need the PROPER dose of prevacid (see http://www.marci-kids.com for proper dosing)2) you get the prevacid in the form of capsules- not pills, not powder, not solutabs, but capsules w/ little beads inside3) then you contact the folks who sell the bufferbabies(formerly known as caracream-it’s the same stuff just a newer, improved version)4) you buy however much that they (bufferbabies folks) tell you, depending on the dose per kg (see http://www.marci-kids.com for proper dosing) and also depending on how big your capsules are, ie: are they 20mg capsules, 40? etc (I’m just making those numbers up! I do not know off the top of my head how prevacid capsules come!)5) they give you GREAT directions and you sit at your table like a mad scientist and mix the stuff upronan wrote: The doctor we saw (who seemed to know nothing) said we had to stop the Zantac when we started the Zegerid. DO NOT STOP THE ZANTAC! yes, you did read that it can take up to 14 days for the PPI to show their true colors! you also read, close to the top of the page of Groupie Intro, that you need to continue w/ the zantac bcse if you do NOT do this, then bcse the PPI isn’t doing it’s ‘thing’ then it’s as if the baby is not taking any meds at all! I learned this the HARD WAY. no one told me this, so therefore I am telling you (& everyone who comes to this board, lol!)November 25, 2008 at 9:47 am #58966AnonymousInactiveThank you so much! I talked to the pharmacist yesterday and told the white lie about my friend getting Zegerid in powder form. He made some phone calls and then when he got back to me he told me that no, he could not give it to me in powder form. I again told him why and he said the best he could do is mix it up in 2 week batches so I will have to pick it up every two weeks. Is it worth it to try this, or should I fax the doctor and insist on prevacid capsules?
November 25, 2008 at 10:08 am #58968AnonymousInactivehi everybody…new mommy here too. my baby is on prevacid solutab. should i be considering the capsules? right now i dissovle it in water and use a syringe and it seems to be fine. would the capsules be better?
