My baby just turned 4 1/2 months and I am struggling to understand what is going on with his feeding. When he turned about 2 months old, he started to get picky with his eating, but none the less would eat his whole bottle each time (he is getting 90% breastmilk in bottles). The last month he started to get really fussy whereas I had to carry him around while feeding in order for him to eat at all. Now the last week he stared to cry at every meal time. He will eat about 3 ounces, burp but once I try to get the bottle back into his mouth he turns his head, arches his back and starts to scream. Last night was the first night that he had these blood currdeling screams to the point that I was hysterically crying seeing him in pain. The doctor just prescribed Prevacid which he has been on for 2 days now and I am hoping it begins to work. It took forever to get a diagnosis because he does not spit up AT ALL or cry after a bottle, just during. I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced their baby being a good eater and slowly getting worse and worse because of acid reflux. How do I know if it is truly the silent reflux?

1) the FIRST thing I would do is to TELL the dr you want a prescription for carafate- this is a ‘band-aid’ med, meaning it is not for long term use- it coats the esophogus- you’llhave to check w/ the pharmacist about how far apart you need to space carafate from the prevacid2) what I would do next is to CHECK the prevacid dose here, http://www.marci-kids.com, bcse unfortunately many drs underprescribe PPIs in infants3) then I would read all about how the different FORMS of prevacid and how to ADMINISTER the prevacid: Prevacid 101(last post on the page): https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1936&PN=0&TPN=14) you ask ‘how’ to know if it’s reflux?a) well, the meds are very safe so, if eating improves, that’s one way.b) another way is to read and research all you can and see if symptoms ‘match’ with what you find…for example: what are baby’s stools like? mucousy (like mucous in the diaper, stringy, clumpy, etc)?5) TELL dr you’d like baby’s stools tested for occult blood…6) while you wait for the carafate, figure out the prevacid dosing and administration, wait for the PPI to show it’s working (it can take up to a good 14 days), etc: you can get mylanta cherry supreme (this one does not have aluminum) and you can give this 4hrs seperate from the prevacid)I have a LOT MORe to say & (most of) it’s here:
