My OT suggested that maybe Noah has mspi because we have always had feeding issues since birth. He has never had an appetite and has never been interested in eating bottle or solids. But especially the bottle. Other than that, the only issue he has is mild reflux. He isnt gassy or constipated. He doesnt get rashes and he is the happiest baby (as long as your not trying to give him the bottle). His esoph endoscope came back normal and the biopsies were normal too. I was wondering what symptoms your babies had that warranted an MSPI diagnosis?

Isaac’s biopsies came back normal too but ped gi said that if he hasn’t been exposed to milk or soy then it will not show up.

Some have an easier diagnosis then others. Our son was extremely colic for his first 3 months. GI said it was MSPI because he did well on Nutramagin for one week then started refluxing and screaming again. Now he’s four months and we’re still not sure. He’s on elecare-no screaming, not much refluxing, but we still go through occasional bottle refusal especially when he seems gassy or has to poop. Also, he had no excema, rings, blood in stool either. Otherwise, really happy baby.
It’s all a big mystery. Wishing you the best.

red ring on her tush. Tummy cramps and rashes and screaming episodes
and spitting up acid soon followed. Switched to Good Start and was a
bit better for a couple of weeks but then same symptoms came back.
Switched to Alimentum (Ped) and much better for about 4 weeks but then
she got thrush and everything got thrown out of whack. Ped GI put us on
Neocate and we did that for 3 months. Just switched back to Alimentum
and so far seems good but has only been 4 full days so far so we’ll see.January 30, 2006 at 9:03 pm #325AnonymousInactiveZach was extremely gassy and would only sleep for 30 minutes at a time
– I think because he had tummy cramps. The ped put him on
Alimentum at 8 weeks (after we had tried Enfamil, Good Start, soy,
etc.) and within a week we were sleeping better and didn’t have near
the gas.January 31, 2006 at 9:57 am #354AnonymousInactivehannah was milk sensitive in a very obvious way, intractible diarrhea at 2 weeks old. our ped then put her on soy which seemed to do the trick until 6 weeks when she was diagnosed with silent reflux (which sometimes was anything but silent). at 4 months, after fighting through feedings (and feedings that would take HOURS) and no improvement in the reflux symptoms with zantac of ever increasing doses, i asked the ped if maybe the “binding” effect of the soy was contributing to the reflux, she agreed and recommended i try lactose free formula…which after 2 bottles of soy/ lactofree combo, hannah barfed so much she biled up…expediting our GI visit which was still a month away. our gi explained that often infants that are sensitive to milk protein are pretty much automatically soy protein sensitive. but when i questioned her about symptoms of this intolerance, she told me that reflux itself can be caused by protein intolerance…soy intolerance was more insidious that the obvious milk intolerance as it caused the reflux. after experimenting with PPIs which did nothing to improve hannah’s reflux and an upper gi which showed no abnormality (or reflux for that matter), we switched to a hypoallergenic formula which after 8 weeks, all reflux disappeared. see, meds didn’t help, changing formulas didn’t help, but we didn’t know, we only thought we had a baby who hated to eat and barfed alot.
the funny thing is, our limited understanding really created a bottle aversion and some other oral defensiveness issues which made our eventual transition to table foods a total nightmare. but you know what they say, hindsight is 20/20??
good luck, let me know if i can help in any way.
