Hesitant to switch….

Jenna is approaching a year old and our doctor asked me what my plans were for switching her from Neocate to whole milk? I’m really scared to try this. She has done so well on Neocate. Has anyone switched directly from Neocate to whole milk? (gradually of course)

I would personally do a slow transition to a formula like Nutramigen or Alimentum first, and then maybe Good Start, just to see if she can tolerate the hydolyzed cow’s milk protein. I think our society puts WAY too much emphasis on cow’s milk, when so many of our little ones just can’t tolerate it. Is she getting any hidden dairy from other food sources (like milk products in baking, crackers, margarine, etc.)? That’s something I would try first as well, to see how she does before trialing whole milk.

I would agree with Sherri- I did hidden dairy and then yougart, cheese etc at about 11 mo and ds did well with that for about 3 mo before trialing any whole milk. I waited until about 14 mo I think.

We weren’t on Neocate, but on Nutramigen. At 10.5 months I started the switch to gentlease and then I did yogurt/cheese and at 12.5months I have switched him to whole milk and so far so good. i took the nutramigen to gentlease really slow I did 2 oz of gentlease and increased by 2oz every 3 days so it took us almost 5 weeks and then after 1 month of all gentlease and some yogurt and cheese thrown in I added the whole milk,but much quicker at 2oz incements daily and he has been on whole milk soley now for almost a week. i think the slower the better with the introduction of the milk proteins esp since she is on neocate.

Here’s what we’re doing- around 12 months we went started with goat yogurt and goat cheese (which she loved)- but still putting neocate in her rice and oatmeal (instant) and sleep-feeding neocate (the only way she’ll take it- about 3.5 oz) at night.) so far, so good- no reactions to the goat products.

now we’re trying to get her to drink goat milk, but so far, no go. She’ll only drink water during the day.
