For some reason, my husband and I have never been able to make our daughter look comfortable in the Amby Bed. It seems like her head is not elevated; the mattress either looks flat or like her feet are more elevated than her head. I’ve tried following the instructions that came with the bed (placing the baby toward the bottom of the bed so the weight is redistributed; cinching up the head of the bed) but it doesn’t seem to help – just makes her look squished. The only thing that helps is putting a thick book in the very bottom end of the bed. But she’s getting so big now that the book is bumping her feet. Any others have trouble with this?
(she’s 8 mo. old; 17 lbs)

If you don’t angle it as much then it doesn’t really elevate. It’s quite finicky that way. Hailey also doesn’t really seem to have her head elevated at all. I used to put a paperweight at the bottom wrapped up in a sock, but then I had fears of her bouncing and the weight flying up and hitting her in the head so I took it out. And it didn’t really help anyhow, because then you’d just find her all slumped down at the bottom. I’m now looking into the comfylift bed, but hate the idea that they’d dare to charge almost $300 dollars (over 400 canadian dollars) for something that’s just foam wedges. It’s criminal! (But I’ll probably do it anyhow). Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

I came across this message while doing some admin work and wanted to let you know that I have emailed Amby and asked for some input on this.
I will let you know if I get some advice from them.

March 8, 2006 at 10:41 am #3268AnonymousInactiveWe had this same problem, too. What we wound up doing was cinching the top of the bed and putting a flat weight (like that you’d attach to a dumbell) under the mattress on the bottom. Ally would wind up squished toward the bottom but it didn’t seem to bother her at all.

Tiffany, how and when did you transition her out of the Amby? What does she sleep in now?
March 8, 2006 at 5:57 pm #3315AnonymousInactiveOur bed. She went through this horrible sleep mess between 4-5 months. One night when my dh was out of town, I picked her up around 4 in the am for the millionth time. I thought she was hungry, so I laid her in bed next to me, turned to make the bottle, and when I turned back she was dead asleep. We’ve coslept ever since, and since starting we intend to do it with all of our children, it’s such a wonderful gift to all of us to share sleep (and difficult wakeful nights!) together.
March 8, 2006 at 9:09 pm #3340AnonymousInactiveThanks Tiffany. I’ve thought about co-sleeping, but don’t know that it would work with hailey. She’s very uncomfortable sleeping flat, and I don’t want to get stuck holding her all night (not comfortable for me or her).
