Oh no. Sorry to hear that you’re both sick. I’m actually surprised that they gave him something to stop the vomitting. When they have stomach bugs the vomitting and diarrhea actually serve to remove the virus from the system. That’s why you shouldn’t take immodium either when you have a stomach bug.
Anyhow, hope he’s feeling better soon.

thats what i thought Lori! i really wish i would have thought of that when we were at the ER, i would have said something
and he is worse now. he has been screaming since he got that shot-non stop. he at least wasnt screaming yesterday. and here i am vomitting away, and Mike is bitching about Trace. all he wants to do is set him down and let him scream.
agh am losing it!December 24, 2006 at 9:38 pm #21005AnonymousInactiveNatalia,
You will get through this OK!!! My entire family had it too. I was puking like you and then for three days I couldn’t eat and all I could do was turn on Sesame Street while my daughter and I slept on the couch and watched it. Brianna had diareha every 30 min, no pee diapers, and hardly would eat anything. I went from a cow(i am BF) to a dry tundra overnight! And right in the throws of it, my husband got sick. But…we all made it through. Please tell your husband (as nicely as possible) not to even think about complaining about anything right now. Keep trying to give Trace the meds, and any liquids he will take. Keep us posted and I will pray for you and your family.
Hugs!
December 24, 2006 at 10:11 pm #21008AnonymousInactiveDo you know what they gave him? Hang in there. Hopefully it pass for both of you soon.
December 24, 2006 at 10:24 pm #21009AnonymousInactiveOh, no Natalia! We all had it too. It was horrible but on the bright side it was shorter for me and dh…only two really bad days and then a day or two of not feeling great but no more puking or diarrhea.
It’s so hard to take care of a sick baby when you are sick yourself. I hope you have some help.
The pediatrician I talked to about Myles said to keep feeding him as much as he would eat or drink even though he was throwing up and pooping everything out because each time he ate or drank anything he was at least absorbing some of it. Small, frequent feedings worked best.
It’s really a bummer for both of you to be sick at Christmas time. I hope you’re both better soon.
December 24, 2006 at 10:32 pm #21010AnonymousInactiveNatalia – I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this! Like Christine, we went through this about a week ago. It was no fun. Sarah never puked, but she had diarrhea for 7 days and refused to take any bottles. It was so stressful!!! I ended up being able to get Sarah to eat a little bit of baby food and that made me feel a little better b/c she was at least getting SOMETHING in her system. She did puke up baby food in the middle of the night once…just remembered that.
Try Christine’s idea of small syringe feedings for a while. I really hope he AND YOU feel better soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 25, 2006 at 7:44 pm #21031AnonymousInactivethanks everyone.
as of right now Trace has been screaming all day. he is thrashing himself around and NOTHING soothes him. he was also up last night about every 30 minutes either vommiting or having the runs
i thought it would be getting better by now but he seems to be getting worseDecember 25, 2006 at 8:15 pm #21033AnonymousInactiveMyles was that bad too. Are you trying to give him small amts of fluids frequently? That’s the most important thing….keeping him hydrated. Hopefully it will pass soon. How are you feeling?
December 26, 2006 at 2:44 pm #21057AnonymousInactiveNatalia,
I’m so sorry for the both of you! What a horrible mess. It does sound like rotavirus to me, not that that helps you at all. Just do your best, and hang in there.
December 27, 2006 at 12:16 pm #21136AnonymousInactivei just need some imput/advice here. Trace has been like this since the 23rd. he is still screaming non stop and nothing makes him happy. at night he thrashes himself around. still having diarhea. vommiting has slowed down.
i called the ER and rotovirus test came back negative.
i dont understand this. its something bad, because everyone in the house got it too, but we are not nearly as bad as him.
i called his doctor and they said there is nothing to do. they said bring him to the er if you think he is dehydrated. im so worn out right now.
what could be wrong with him??December 27, 2006 at 1:31 pm #21146AnonymousInactivehelp
i wonder if that anti vomit shot had something in it. ugh!
December 27, 2006 at 1:52 pm #21147AnonymousInactiveI am not sure what I would do, and I am sorry for not having a better answer, but if it were me, I think I would go to the ER and ask for fluids anyway. Dylan always acts up even when he is healthy and has not had enough fluids in a day. Even if they are not fully dehydrated, the fluids at least make them feel better and that is one less thing to worry about. I haven’t gone back to read the entire thread, but now that the vomiting is slower, have you tried tylenol just for any discomfort? Also a warm bath always seems to help my boys.
Again, so sorry that I feel like my advice sucks, but I am not sure what to do either. Maybe someone will have better ideas?
Hang in there!!!!! When Dylan had rotovirus, it did last over a week, so even though the test was negative, it could be a similar awful stomach flu that can last a long time.
December 27, 2006 at 1:57 pm #21148AnonymousInactiveHow much, how often, and what are you feeding him?
The ER doctor I talked to when Myles was so bad said the new thinking is to keep feeding them as much as they will take even if they keep puking or pooping it out. They used to say to give the gi tract a rest, but they don’t suggest that anymore. He may be excessively thirsty which may be part of why he’s so miserable. Plus he probably has a very upset stomach with cramping.
Does he still have tears when he cries? Wetting any diapers?
There are many, many intestinal viruses out there so it doesn’t surprise me that it’s not rotavirus. If you’ve all got it, then it is most likely a virus. These bugs do last longer and cause more severe symptoms in infants because they have no immunity to them, whereas we adults have had them enough times in our lives to build up some immunity so that we tend to have milder and shorter cases.
I hope it’s almost over now.
December 27, 2006 at 2:21 pm #21149AnonymousInactivei offer him fluids constantlyy, most of the time he refuses, and he gags. the gag stimulates vomit.
thanks for the advice., i think i just have to wait for this to pass…im going to try to push the pedialyte more so than the formula. its just hard because it cant be given the pedialyite within 2 hours of meds….
he has hardly had any wet diapers this whole time. that was one of the main reasons i brought him to the ER. yet the er doc said i was doing an excellent job at keeping him hydrated.
he also said that IV’s werent that effective at keeeping babies hydrated, and that the better thing to do was just keeep trying to give him sips of pedialyte. i dont know though, most of the time when i offer fluids he gags like i said.
i hate these viruses!nataliachick72006-12-27 14:34:30
December 27, 2006 at 4:32 pm #21156AnonymousInactiveSounds like you’re doing a great job, Natalia. It was exhausting trying to keep Myles hydrated when he was so sick so I certainly know what you’re going through. I hate these darn viruses, too.
Hopefully he’ll turn the corner soon.
