I am so frustrated lately with Noah’s pooping habits. I dont know what is wrong. Everyday for the last week and a half, Noah has woken up and has had major “blow out” diapers. IT IS EVERYWHERE! Its all over the the crib slats, the bumper pad, sheets, blankets and toys. Not to mention its all over him! Some times its watery or mucussy and other times its just really soft. But there is always a huge amount (or so it seems). I dont know whats causing such a sudden change. I dont know if its food related or possibly teething. He also has a rash on the inside of his thighs (not on his butt). I have not changed his diet much per say. The only difference is that he is getting more milk, whereas before he had soy drink. But he has always had dairy products like cheese, yogart and butter for many months.
Does it sound food related? Also, I have used every brand of diaper to help contain this mess, but nothing seems to work. I am tired of cleaning and changing bed linens everyday! Any advise on how to control this mess?
October 25, 2006 at 12:58 pm #16565AnonymousInactiveIt could be the milk. I’m somewhat lactose intolerant. I can usually tolerate small amounts of cheese, but milk is almost always a problem.
My kids often get loose and frequent stools with teething, but not as bad as you are describing. I’d stop the milk for a while and see if he improves.
It must be so frustrating. Myles pees out of all of his diapers (I’ve tried them all). I know it’s not nearly as bad as poop all over the place, but I get tired of changing his bed. I’m double diapering him now, and that helps. Maybe try that until his stools are normal again. (I put a size 6 diaper over his size 5 diaper and that contains it well).
October 25, 2006 at 1:00 pm #16566AnonymousInactiveHave you tried those plastic pants over the diapers? I think those are supposed to work well….
October 25, 2006 at 1:35 pm #16570AnonymousInactiveWith my oldest he would do that when he had whole milk. We started giving him 2% and he does so much better on it. He is 16 now and still has to drink 2%.
October 25, 2006 at 1:58 pm #16577AnonymousInactiveplastic pants should help to contain the mess. i cloth diapered for years——i actually prefered cloth over disposable at one time—-but that was when pampers still had folds instead of elastic——i’m so old!!!

My connection sucks but hopefully i will manage to post this…. Matthew and Noah are doing exactly the same thing!! Huge blowout poops, i have to change all of his clothes and he has the rash and little bumps inside his thighs!!! For us, it is def teething. Matthew does let me put my fingers in to do some exercises and he has 2 molars starting to swell under the gums… this always happens with Matthew and teething…. the rash and everything and it is always a sign that there is some swelling in his mouth.
October 25, 2006 at 3:06 pm #16582AnonymousInactiveMaybe even just try moving to the next size diaper up… Sometimes when my kids started having poopy diaper leaks it helped to get the next biggest size…
October 26, 2006 at 8:22 am #16626AnonymousInactiveOh that sounds awful!!! Might it be a virus? Sarah always had teething poop as well, but never that bad.
October 26, 2006 at 11:25 am #16632AnonymousInactiveSounds like a virus or the milk to me. Teething does cause big, frequent
mushy poops here (in fact we just had a week long bout and another eye
tooth pop through) but what you’re describing sounds pretty extreme for
teething.
