He has croup :(

After another night of hardly any sleep I took Owen to his ped. His cough is getting worse and he also still has a fever.
She said that the barking cough is a typical sign of croup. He got a steroid shot since she didn’t want to give him oral steroids because of his reflux. She also prescribed him some Pedialyte since his eyes were all sunken in. He doesn’t want to eat and after 2 oz of fluids he’ll start coughing and gagging and won’t drink anything anymore.
He has lost weight because of the lack of eating, is now down to 19lbs 8oz. She said if his symptoms don’t improve by tomorrow we’ll have to come back again in the morning.
I’m just glad I took him in, he was so miserable all day today. Luckily right now he is taking a nap with Daddy. Hopefully he’ll wake up in a better mood and feels a little better.

Hi Melanie.

Hang in there. Henry’s croup was horrible! Once the symptoms were under control, it went away pretty quickly. Hopefully that gives you hope. We had the oral steroids. It took two doses. 4 hours apart. It was tough to go through, but it works wonders. After that 2nd dose- about 20 minutes while I held him- I knew we were on a good road to recovery and everything would be fine.

I’ve always heard to take them to cool dry air to help them breathe better. Like the air of the refrigerator or freezer. If it gets really bad, keep that in mind. It opens their lungs up instantly.
