Ok – i have to start by saying i absolutely LOVE our GI. She is wonderful, she is so sweet and caring and she is such a good listener!!
Sorry about that – good doctors are so hard to find.
For those of you who follow Matthew, we went to a feeding clinic a little while back and they suggested helping him with his stools by giving him some Mylanta…Gi laughed about it and she said that if they want some help, she wants me to give him some MIralax… so we now have a bottle and have to start giving it to him… she is great.. rather than wait and try different things, she just went for the real stuff!
She said feeding will take time to solve… she said she just got back from the Gi conference (i know that every GI on the other forum i go to was there too as nobody could see people last week)…. she said that they discussed feeding issues a lot and had feeding teams present and that she understands that a lot of it is trial and error etc but she truly believes that these people will help in the end.
On the GTube – she is all up for it. Did not have to say anything. She just checked on the computer the blood test results from ped (I love their system) and they are great so she does not need further work before surgery. We need to check with the ped because the tube can be inserted via endo or surgically and each has pros and cons. She said if it was her son, it would be endo so we are leaning towards that. She also said that we can then take a look down there and have some biopsies now that he eats everything… she said to talk to ped, discuss with husbadn over the weekend and call on tuesday and we will have it done in the next couple of weeks.
On the downside, she wants a tube first and then wait 3 to 6 months for the button but that is as long as we have had the NG tube and time flies…
On the crawling… cannot hurt to exercise upper body but our baby is about to walk so will be hard for him to go down on the floor, she thinks.
Sorry for the long post – i know it is hard to believe we are pushing for surgery but trust me, if your baby had had an NG tube for 5 months you really would be pushing too and we are SO excited.
Thanks for listening

I totally agree with the Miralax suggestion – worked really well for
Marisa a few months ago – we only used it for a few days and got her
going. If this juice weren’t working we’d be using it still. Let us
know if it helps Matthew!Great news also with the Gtube – glad she’s so proactive!
Agree re crawling. M commando crawls a ton but I think she’s going to
skip over regular crawling as all she wants to do now is pull up and
stand. But like you said, can’t hurt to try I guess.Totally understand your excitement and Marisa and I send big hugs!

I’m so happy to hear that you had a good experience with this doctor
and you felt that you could trust her. That is so hard to find
sometimes. That’s great that she is in agreement about the surgery. I
hope and pray that if you decide to go ahead with it that it will turn
out to be the best thing you could have done for Matthew and that he
will benefit greatly from it.May 26, 2006 at 1:44 pm #8656AnonymousInactiveThanks Karen and Christine….

That is such fantastic news!! Having the right doctor can really make a world of difference. Great news all around. Please keep us posted.
May 27, 2006 at 5:01 pm #8684AnonymousInactiveGreat news all around! It sounds like you have a great GI doc and she seems very proactive. I’m happy that you are able to get the G-tube and that you are comfortable with that decision. Why do you have to have the tube for 3 to 6 months though? They cant put in a button right away?
May 27, 2006 at 9:03 pm #8688AnonymousInactiveThais – Good news, it is great that you like the gi, we have changed 3 gi so far because they are poor ability.
I forgot the password from another forum, so to answer your question from there, Brian uses take and toss straw cup from the first years, I like it, because it is clear that I can see through how much he is drinking, sometimes I just use disposable straw for him. He does not hold the cup though, he needs me to hold it for him, I often said that he is like a king and I am the servant.
May 27, 2006 at 9:17 pm #8690AnonymousInactiveThank you all… we do love our Gi so are very happy with her.
Thanks Sharon… i will try to look for it. Right now all we offer is formula… we are in no hurry to switch from bottles but he may like the formula better in the straw cup… if he only took the bottle well! :-).
