In the last few days my 6 month old has started growling (that’s the best way i can describe it). she opens her mouth as wide as she can and makes this low growling sound, like a lion, i guess. it almost seems like a new way for her to express her frustration. is this a reflux thing? does her throat hurt? or is she just being a goof ball?
May 19, 2007 at 8:39 pm #33829AnonymousInactiveBen started the growling thing at about Lillian’s age too. I would guess it’s a bit of both – developmental and reflux.
I always got the feeling like he was doing it to try to keep the reflux down..

May 19, 2007 at 10:01 pm #33848AnonymousInactivethere is another post about this.. about a month ago… thats pretty funny. my son growls too..but i think its a funny thing that he figured out how to do! he seems to do it more when he is playing.

My babies always made strange sounds once they realized that they could make them. I think they like listening to themselves! It’s funny.
May 19, 2007 at 10:44 pm #33859AnonymousInactivethanks y’all. you know how us new mommies like to worry about everything.
i guess that could be a positive thing about reflux – you can worry about the little things and people don’t think your entirely crazy.
May 20, 2007 at 11:48 am #33885AnonymousInactiveAddy loved to growl! We thought it was so cute and she would do it to get attention if all eyes weren’t on her! I think its mainly a developmental phase.
May 20, 2007 at 12:36 pm #33891AnonymousInactiveOh yeah, we went through that phase too. Everyone thought it was adorable which prompted her to do it more. Oddly, I haven’t heard the noise in months now so it must be developmental.

I think it’s funny that once they realize that they can do certain things, that they take delight in doing it for no reason whatsoever. Hailey’s new thing is that she loves to strip… why?… because she figured out that she could!
May 21, 2007 at 5:57 am #33958AnonymousInactiveAlana growled or grunted when her reflux was uncontrolled…that was early…about 3 months.
When she found her voice about 6 months she growled for the heck of it I think. Even now she goes through some days when she has a “growly” day.

I posted this exact same question a couple of weeks ago and got many replies that others’ babies with reflux were doing the same thing, but I’ve also talked to friends of mine who have babies without reflux, and many of theirs do it too, so I am now thinking that in my case at least it’s a developmental thing… Caden is not currently showing any signs of reflux (sour breath gone, not fussy, sleeping better, eating great), so I’m assuming that for us it is develomental. I’m sure it’s possible that it could be reflux related for some, but I wouldn’t automatically assume it’s that.
