Landen has had really loose stools for about 7 days. The last 2 days it’s been like liquid green. (gross I know, sorry)
the only things I can think of that is different is that he’s been eating corn. Can you be intolerant to corn? He’s had things with corn in it (I am sure he’s eaten things with corn meal or corn flour, etc) would the actual vegetable itself cause a reaction??also, I tried probiotics a couple days ago and that is when it got even runnier. He has ‘angry red ring’ and a really bad rash around his anus. It is SO bad. can probiotics make things worse or should I continue them?he also has another new thing- excema on his arms- little patches.TIAjilly78 2008-05-22 15:57:31 May 22, 2008 at 6:25 pm #51696hellbenntKeymasterthere are intolrances and even allergies to corn!
can’t go into more, as I have to run, but yes it can be the corn…
May 22, 2008 at 9:15 pm #51698AnonymousInactiveGoodness Jill. I do know of another mom on here whose lo had an allergy to corn and corn syrup I believe I can’t remember who it was though. When he eats the corn does it come back in his poop? Cooper always has undigested corn in his poop after he eats it. It is really hard to digest so that is why I am asking. Any other symptoms, tummy cramps, gas, irritability? I might stop the corn for a few weeks and try again. Did you ever try grits with him? That is pretty much just ground corn and if you did and he didn’t have problems then I might think it is a really bad virus or something else. I know not much help. But here is a big HUG for you guys.

May 23, 2008 at 8:06 am #51707AnonymousInactiveThanks ladies. I feel silly asking about corn intolerance/allergy as I know it exists. I just thought it was rare and didn’t think landen would have problems b/c he drinks neocate (i thought there was some form of corn in neocate)
Beth, we never did get around to trying grits and yes, his poop had undigested corn (the first day this started) and it’s been foul-smelling, runny and green since then.
Kristen- the probiotic does not have any allergens in it. I was really careful and purchased the one Sheri recommended from Kirkman labs. I just wonder if probiotics could make things worse even if allergen-free? I am just at a loss. I suppose he could be reacting to corn if there isn’t enough in the neocate to cause a reaction. *sigh*
He had another really nasty green liquid (horrible smelling) diaper about 20 mins ago. It’s breaking my heart. His little butt is so sore. I am using warm water and a soft washcloth instead of baby wipes, but still. There isn’t enough Triple Paste in the world for his poor butt!thanks for listening everyone!jilly782008-05-23 08:07:52
May 23, 2008 at 10:12 am #51710AnonymousInactiveMaybe try something called EPC (extra protective cream) for his bottom. I have never personally used it, but the moms on another forum I belong to swear by this stuff. It’s over the counter, but you will have to ask the pharmacist for it. They might have to order it. Hope this gets better for you and Landen!
My ds didn’t do well on probiotics either. I was really bummed b/c I thought that probiotics would help him so much. At least you tried.May 24, 2008 at 11:52 pm #51757AnonymousInactiveJill, this sounds like yeast to me. Especially when you mention a red angry ring around the anus. Try an antifungal for the bum rash (like those used for athlete’s foot – I think it’s called Lotrimin in the US? The active ingredient is clotrimazole). If the rash improves, you know it’s yeast.
How is his behaviour – any extra irritability? The probiotic could be effectively battling the yeast, and this can cause yeast die-off symptoms. Sometimes the “bad” is actually a sign of good things happening, especially if you are battling gut pathogens.Really doesn’t sound like corn to me, as Neocate is largely corn based. You can be allergic and/or intolerant to corn though. Ben is and Alexis’s Mom (sorry, her name escapes me) has a girl intolerant of corn too.May 25, 2008 at 7:32 am #51762AnonymousInactiveSheri,
I think you are right about yeast. I continued giving the probiotic b/c I was desperate for something to help and things are starting to improve some. His poop is slowly getting a little thicker in consistency. I think it must be yeast die-off. I’m willing to bet that all the AB’s he was on prior to his ear tubes caused yeast overgrowth.thanks!May 25, 2008 at 9:47 pm #51767AnonymousInactivesorry hun i dont think it is an alergy at all it sounds like rota virus when they get that they have liquid green poo smells bad.your ped can do a stool sample to be sure but as a mom of 4 kids ive been threw this oh and it also gives them a bad rash from the poo.hope he feels better soon

YEP, I was thinking the SAME exact thing. Jedd had roto. and that is exactly whet he went through.Bring a dipaer to the ped. and have them look at it. They can send in to their lab and see for sure.BTW there is NOTHING they can do to make it go away. We were told to have DS eat yogurt for a few days becasue the probiotics in them would help heal his GI tract and lessen the affects fo the Roto. And I sooo sooo know what you mean about he nasty diapers…WHEW…they about cleared out our house….yucky!!!!!June 1, 2008 at 8:11 am #52021AnonymousInactive*Jessica* wrote: [QUOTE=momof4kids]sorry hun i dont think it is an alergy at all it sounds like rota virus when they get that they have liquid green poo smells bad.your ped can do a stool sample to be sure but as a mom of 4 kids ive been threw this oh and it also gives them a bad rash from the poo.hope he feels better soon
