I told my husband I wanted to get online and post our success (in the last three days) just in case it would help another mom who feels like me. My pediatrician told me my son’s discomfort was likely just reflux, not a problem with milk, when I started Allimentum when he was like 6 weeks old. I knew different, because he did great for a week or two on allimentum and then all symptoms started to return and have progressively got worse. I finally decided to give Elecare a try after reading and researching options for my son. What a difference and only day three! I have never seen him so happy, playing on the floor, calm. Im so happy I tried it. Just keep Elecare in mind as an option for your baby.

I have been researching elecare for my son. he has been on alimentum for about 6weeks and i think i am still seeing mspi reactions? Idk if its just belly probelms from reflux or from the mspi.He started prilosec with caracream 9 days ago so i wanted to give that a full 14 days before i switch formula. i’d ask the gi; but even with my ped calling every ped gi in the new orleans area our appt is not until may 16th. I think i might switch next week after the prilosec kicks in.
i hope u can answer a few questions for me. did a doc switch ur son or did you? How did u switch formulas, gradually or started giving him elecare? Thanks in advance!& sorry if i wasnt supposed to post this long of a reply here.April 21, 2011 at 9:06 pm #68220hellbenntKeymastermom2jack&jill:you can post any length!I think you can gradually phase in the neocate/elecare if baby doesn’t seem to take to it…many do it this way. of course, there are those who just switch, but then they come back and say oh if I knew to do it slowly…have you read all of the mspi links?the elemental formula link?these will help a lot…April 22, 2011 at 10:00 pm #68235AnonymousInactiveMy doctor did not prescibe elecare. He has always thought both of my younger children just were colicky and had bad reflux. My now one year old screamed till she could walk. My son, now four months, can barely sleep and would trash his body around during sleep, and would squirm during feedings. I guess the number one thing that led me to a formula change was that his symptoms to begin with seemed more like tummy issues then reflux. Instead of arching ( which hes never done much of) he would bring is knees up during burping and after feedings. He also seems to have problems passing stools. And lots of spit up and sometime projectile vomiting. Stools were better with Allimentum however. The GI I saw when he was 6 weeks said it was just colic because of the knee thing. On a side note, I am a twin and neither my brother or I could handle milk. My brother drank acidophilus ( wrong spelling) till he was pretty old, and I had to drink soy as a baby but I was very small and could not drink much. Later as a child I had horrible migraines which I have been told now may have been from milk. I still don’t drink milk, but I know thats not good for my bones 🙁
Hope this helps, sorry so long. -
