Good news from allergist

We finally went and saw an allergist this morning- they did the skin prick test for milk only and it was negative!!

I think we still may have intolerance issues but at least now I feel comfortable trialing dairy foods again.

I just hope he has had enough exposure that the negative result was accurate.

Thanks- I was really surprised (but happy) with the results. They pricked him on his arm three times and the middle one did produce a bump and redness within a few minutes so I thought for sure they were going to come back in and say he was allergic. Does anyone know if this is normal? I ask because the nurse came in and checked him and said the dr. would come back and talk to us. He came in and said they were all negative but did not even look at his arm. I trust the nurse knew what she was doing??

On a side note, I told both of his grandmothers that the results were negative and they both said things like how he can get mac n cheese now and milk- ugh! They don’t get he probably still has an intolerance and we need to go slow…..

tifanny, usually they do a “control” prick with histamine(?) to use as a comparison, should one of the allergens produce a reaction.

Christine’s right, the bump that you saw was the histamine control. If it didn’t react, then none of the results would be considered accurate. I’m glad that you got some answers. Good luck with the dairy trial!
